Curious George (1980s TV Series)
''Curious George'' is a 1980 television series with five-minute short cartoons starring Curious George. The show was produced by Alan Shalleck, along with co-creator of Curious George, Margret Rey. History In 1977, Alan Shalleck approached Margret Rey, co-creator of Curious George, and proposed making a television series. This led to the creation of the 1980s television show funded by Lafferty, Harwood, and Partners. Shalleck and Rey produced more than 100 five-minute episodes, as well as more than two dozen books. The shorts later aired on Nickelodeon in 1986, then on The Disney Channel as a segment of the program ''Lunch Box'' in 1989. The shorts were also aired in New Zealand on TV One first as part of Chic Chat and later as a stand alone show. In 1993, Rey successfully sued Lafferty, Harwood, and Partners for licensing VHS tapes to third-party companies without her permission. Curious George
Curious George is a fictional monkey who is the title character of a series of popular children's picture books written by Margret and H. A. Rey. Various media, including films and TV shows, have been based upon the original book series. George is described as "a good little monkey, and always very curious". Despite being referred to as a monkey throughout the series, he is depicted without a tail. In the first book, George is caught by "The Man in the Yellow Hat" and taken from Africa to America where the two live together. George and the Man in the Yellow Hat become friends and are shown going on adventures together. George's first appearance was as a monkey named "Fifi" in the book ''Cecily G. and the Nine Monkeys'', which was first published in France during 1939 in the late years. Margret Rey
Margret Elizabeth Rey (born Margarete Elisabeth Waldstein; May 16, 1906 – December 21, 1996) was a German-born American writer and illustrator, known best for the ''Curious George'' series of children's picture books that she and her husband H. A. Rey created from 1939 to 1966. Life Margarete Elisabeth Waldstein was born on May 16, 1906 in Hamburg, German Empire, the daughter of Gertrude (Rosenfeld) and Felix Waldstein. Her father was a member of the Reichstag. She studied art at Bauhaus in Dessau, Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, and the University of Munich between 1926 and 1928 and afterward worked in advertising. In 1935 she left Germany for Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil to escape Nazism (Nazi Germany) – and to meet Hans Reyersbach, a salesman and another German Jew from Hamburg, who had been a family friend. Jack Duffy
Jack Duffy (September 27, 1926 – May 19, 2008) was a Canadian singer, comedian and actor. Life and career Born in Montreal, Duffy grew up in Toronto, dropping out of Central Technical School to become a singer. At age 19, he was hired as a studio singer with CBC in Toronto and in 1948 he started a three-year affiliation with Tommy Dorsey, initially as a member of the vocal group Bob-O-Links. Duffy was performing as a member of the musical act the Town Criers in 1950 and would frequently appear on CBC-TV variety shows through the 1950s. In 1957, he was hired by Norman Jewison to appear as a comedian on the CBC series ''Showtime''. Duffy had his own CBC variety show called '' Here's Duffy'' that ran from June 1958 through October 1959. Alan Shalleck
Alan J. Shalleck (November 14, 1929 – February 6, 2006) was an American writer and producer for children's programming on television, most known for his work on later ''Curious George'' books and the 1980s television shorts. Shalleck studied drama at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York and went to work for CBS in the 1950s, eventually becoming an associate producer on the children's television series ''Winky Dink and You''. In the early sixties he moved to Montreal where he produced "Like Young", at CFCF-TV, a highly successful teen music/dance show starring Jim McKenna that was eventually picked up and syndicated by Dick Clark Productions. Following his years at CBS, and CFCF-TV Shalleck was a producer at The Network for Continuing Medical Education and then formed his own production company (AJ Shalleck Productions) and produced a number of low-budget children's animated films and television episodes. TVNZ 1 ( mi, Te Reo Tātaki Tahi) is the first national television channel owned and operated by the state-owned broadcaster Television New Zealand (TVNZ).
