Cure (river)
The Cure () is a long river in central France, a right-bank tributary of the Yonne. Its source is in Gien-sur-Cure, in the Morvan hills. It flows into the Yonne at Cravant near Vermenton. Morvan
The Morvan (historically Morvand from the Latin ''Murvinnum'' 590)Pierre-Henri Billy, ''Dictionnaire des noms de lieux de la France'', éditions Errance, 640 pages, 2011 , is a mountainous massif lying just to the west of the Côte d'Or escarpment in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region, central-east France. It is a northerly extension of the Massif Central and is of Variscan age. It is composed of granites and basalts and formed a promontory extending northwards into the Jurassic sea. It is the smallest mountain area in France in terms of landmass covered, as well as the lowest, with a maximum altitude of 901 metres (2,956 feet) at Haut-Folin. Dun-les-Places
Dun-les-Places () is a commune in the Nièvre department in central France. It is one of the martyred villages of the Liberation in 1944. Demographics On 1 January 2019, the estimated population was 353. History During World War II, British Special Air Service units and French Resistance groups in the surrounding region carried out a campaign of harassment and sabotage against the occupying Germans. On 24 June, the nearby villages of Montsauche and Planchez were destroyed by the Germans. Late on 26 June, a group of Gestapo and militia arrived in the village. Eighteen men were arrested and brought to the church for a so-called "document check". They were joined by the village priest. The men were questioned in the nearby hotel about the presence of Maquis in the region, despite the presence in the area of the Maquis, no information was given. Vézelay
Vézelay () is a commune in the department of Yonne in the north-central French region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. It is a defensible hill town famous for Vézelay Abbey.
