Curb Appeal Records
Curb Appeal Records was an American record label founded in Kansas City, Missouri by The Get Up Kids guitarist and Blackpool Lights frontman Jim Suptic. History In July 2005, The Get Up Kids split up, leaving the members to pursue their own side-projects. This allowed guitarist Jim Suptic to devote his full attention to his new band Blackpool Lights, composed of himself and former members of Butterglory and The Creature Comforts. Rather than accepting an offer from Vagrant Records to sign the band, Suptic decided that he wanted to start over from scratch, and in doing so, created Curb Appeal Records. Suptic co-founded the label with Al Duffy, a Kansas City entrepreneur who had previously run a beer distributor, Enrique Chi, a publicist who had worked with Vedera and Reggie and the Full Effect, and Alex Brahl, who had previously worked at Vagrant Records, in addition to having produced The Get Up Kids' second album, Something to Write Home About. A curb (North American English), or kerb (Commonwealth English except Canada; see spelling differences), is the edge where a raised sidewalk or road median/central reservation meets a street or other roadway. History Although curbs have been used throughout modern history, and indeed were present in ancient Pompeii, their widespread construction and use only began in the 18th century, as a part of the various movements towards city beautification that were attempted in the period. A series of Paving Acts in the 18th century, especially the 1766 Paving and Lighting Act, authorized the City of London Corporation to create footways along the streets of London, pave them with Purbeck stone (the thoroughfare in the middle was generally cobblestone) and raise them above street level with curbs forming the separation. 8mm (band)
8mm is a rock band from Los Angeles, California. 8mm was started by Sean Beavan (who formerly worked with bands such as Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails and God Lives Underwater), and his wife Juliette Beavan. 8mm has toured internationally in countries such as the United Kingdom and Chile, as well as across the US and in parts of Canada. They released two albums before moving to ChelseaGirl Records. Their debut, appropriately titled ''Opener'', was released independently. Their second, '' Songs to Love and Die By'', was released on Curb Appeal Records. Since then, 8MM has released three albums with ChelseaGirl Records: On a Silent Night (2008), Love and the Apocalypse (2010) and Between the Devil and Two Black Hearts (2012). Patrick Park
Patrick Park (born January 1, 1977) is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. Biography Park grew up in Morrison, Colorado and currently lives in Los Angeles, CA. He was exposed to the arts at an early age: his mother was a published poet, and his father was a doctor who enjoyed playing folk and blues records and the guitar at home. Park himself began to write songs in his early teens and played in bands starting in middle school. He moved to New York City to try and start a music career, but left after less than eight months for Los Angeles, working numerous odd jobs that ranged from clothing store retail clerk to karate teacher to support himself. The iTunes Store is a digital media store operated by Apple Inc. It opened on April 28, 2003, as a result of Steve Jobs' push to open a digital marketplace for music. As of April 2020, iTunes offered 60 million songs, 2.2 million apps, 25,000 TV shows, and 65,000 films. Stay Down (album)
''Stay Down'' is the fifth studio album by the American, Chicago-based pop punk group, Smoking Popes. Released on Curb Appeal Records on August 5, 2008, it was the band's first studio album since their 2005 reunion and their first album of original material since 1997's ''Destination Failure''. It's the only Smoking Popes album to feature drummer Ryan Chavez, who joined the band in 2006. Release On May 16, 2008, "If You Don't Care" was posed on the band's Myspace profile. Between June and August 2008, the band went on a US tour. Shortly after the release of the album Curb Appeal Records folded and the album went out of print. Smoking Popes is an American pop punk band from the northwest suburbs of Chicago. They are composed of brothers Matt Caterer (bass), Josh Caterer (lead vocals/guitar) and Eli Caterer (guitar/backing vocals) and Mike Felumlee (drums). History Early history In 1990, the Caterer brothers formed a punk trio called Speedstick with Josh on vocals/guitar, Eli on bass, and Matt on drums. They played one gig in a friend's basement, after which the Caterer parents decided that Eli, then a sophomore in high school, would have to quit the band until after he graduated, so Matt switched to bass and Dave Martens joined on drums. Matt Pryor is an American musician who lives in Lawrence, Kansas. He is best known as a founding member and the lead vocalist of The Get Up Kids, one of the most influential acts of the second-wave emo music scene. Early life Matt Pryor was born in Kansas City, Missouri on March 16, 1978. He attended St Peter's Elementary and Bishop Miege High School, where he met his future wife. Pryor was raised Catholic, but described his experience with the church as "bigoted, mysoginist & homophobic." Pryor's father played accordion when he was young, but otherwise describes his family as "not particularly musical." He described himself as a "young metalhead in grade school," citing Guns N' Roses and Motley Crue as early influences. The New Amsterdams is an American band featuring Matthew Pryor of The Get Up Kids. In a certain sense, they represented the acoustic counter-project to The Get up Kids. In contrast to The Get Up Kids, this project features acoustic guitars, the accordion, wind instruments, strings, and mature elements of American folklore.
