Semelidae
The Semelidae are a family of saltwater clams, marine bivalve molluscs in the order Cardiida. Description Members of this family have rounded or oval, elongated shells, much flattened. The two valves are connected by an internal ligament in contrast to the closely related family Tellinidae where the ligament is external. The two separate siphons are very long, sometimes several times the length of the shell. These siphons have a characteristic cruciform muscle at their base. Selected genera Genera of Semelidae (with some notable species also listed) include: *'' Abra'' Lamarck, 1818 **'' Abra aequalis'' (Say, 1822) **''Abra alba'' (Wood W., 1802) **''Abra californica'' Kundsen, 1970 **''Abra lioica'' ( Dall, 1881) **''Abra longicallis'' Sacchi, 1836 **''Abra nitida'' (O. Timothy Abbott Conrad
Timothy Abbott Conrad (June 21, 1803 in Trenton, New Jersey – August 9, 1877 in Trenton) was an American geologist and malacologist. Biography He was from early life an investigator of American paleontology and natural history, devoting himself to the study of the shells of the Tertiary and Cretaceous formations, and to existing species of mollusks. In 1831 he began the issue of a work on “American Marine Conchology,” and the year following published the first number of his “Fossil Shells of the Tertiary Formation,” which was never completed. A “Monography of the Family Unionidae” was issued between 1835 and 1847. The lithographed plates in his publications were in part his own work. He contributed many articles to the '' American Journal of Science'' and the ''Journal of the Philadelphia Academy of Science''. As one of the New York state geologists he prepared the geological report for 1837. He was paleontologist of the New York Geological Survey from 1838 until ...

Poromya Granulata
''Poromya granulata'', or the granular poromya, is a species of marine bivalve mollusc in the family Poromyidae. It is unusual among bivalves in being carnivorous. It is found in more northerly parts of the Atlantic Ocean. Description ''Poromya granulata'' is a dull-white coloured shell with dome-shaped valves and grows to about long. The valves are thin and fragile, subequivalve and subequilateral. They are roughly oval in shape with a rounded anterior margin and a subtruncated, sloping posterior margin. The umbones are prominent. The surfaces of the valves have faint concentric sculpture lines and are covered in rows of fine granulations. The margins are smooth and the ligament is mostly internal. The right valve has a single cardinal tooth and the left valve has a ridge-like lateral tooth and a socket for the cardinal from the right valve. The inside of the valves is nacreous and the pallial line has a broad, shallow sinus.
