Cumberland County Blues
The Cumberland County Blues are a Canadian Junior ice hockey club from Springhill, Nova Scotia. They are members of the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League and are 2010 Don Johnson Cup Maritime Junior B champions. History In 2007, the Blues hosted the Don Johnson Cup, the Maritime Junior B Championship. They would go on to lose in the final to the East Hants Penguins 2–0. They finished the tournament with a 4–2–0 record. In 2010, the Cumberland County Blues won their second consecutive NSJHL championship. They won the right to attend their second straight Don Johnson Cup Maritime Junior B Championship. In 2009, after an impressive 3–1–0 record in the round robin, they were dropped 6–5 in the semi-final by the St. John's Junior Hockey League's St. John's Jr. Caps in Bay Roberts, Newfoundland and Labrador. Springhill, Nova Scotia
Springhill is a community located in central Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, Canada. The community was founded as "Springhill Mines." Coal mining led to economic growth, with its incorporation as a town in 1889. The mines in the Springhill coalfield were established in the 19th century, and by the early 1880s were being worked by the Cumberland Coal & Railway Company Ltd. and the Springhill & Parrsboro Coal & Railway Company Ltd. These entities merged in 1884 to form the Cumberland Railway & Coal Company Ltd., which its investors sold in 1910 to the industrial conglomerate Dominion Coal Company Ltd. (DOMCO). All coal mining had ceased in the area by the early 1970s. Kensington Vipers
The Kensington Vipers are a Canadian Junior ice hockey club from Kensington, Prince Edward Island. They are members of the Island Junior Hockey League and are 2011 and 2013 Don Johnson Memorial Cup Atlantic Junior B champions. Team history The Kensington Vipers joined the Island Junior Hockey League in 1998 after the Kensington Granites Senior hockey team had folded and the Community Gardens arena was looking for a junior hockey client. After sponsorship stints as "Don Clark Insurance" and "Valley Truss and Metal", a full-time sponsor was found in 2003, as Moase Plumbing and Heating assumed sponsorship. After many underachieving years, the Vipers reached the Island Championship in 2002 but lost in the seventh game to the now defunct O'Leary Eagles. Sherwood Falcons
The Sherwood Metros (formerly the Sherwood Falcons) are a Canadian Junior C ice hockey team located in Sherwood, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. They play in the Prince Edward Island Junior C Hockey League. History The Sherwood Falcons were founded in 2005, and have played in Charlottetown for their entire existence. They became defunct between 2009 and 2013, before being resurrected for the 2013–14 season. They were renamed the Metros in 2015. Incident vs. Aces In March 2013, in the final game of the season, a brawl erupted when, as handshakes were taking place, three players from the Sherwood Falcons crossed centre ice and charged the Aces' players. Madawaska County (2016 population 32,741), also known as the "New Brunswick Panhandle", is located in northwestern New Brunswick, Canada. Over 90% of the county's population speaks French. Its Francophone population are known as "Brayons." Forestry is the major industry in the county. Strait Pirates
The Strait Pirates are a Junior B ice hockey team from Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia, Canada. The Pirates play at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre and are a member of the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League. The Pirates are the longest countiously running Junior B franchise in Canada. History In 1964 a group headed by Tiger Mackie got together to form a junior hockey club in Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia, in an attempt to create a tenant for the new Port Hawkesbury Arena, which began construction in 1963. The team was dubbed the Strait Pirates, and were accepted into the Cape Breton Junior Hockey League (CBJHL) the following year. For the 1966-67 season the Pirates actively recruited players from across Atlantic Canada and Quebec. The increased strength of the team led to them being kicked out of the CBJHL due to other teams being unable to compete. Antigonish Bulldogs
The Valley Wildcats are a Canadian junior ice hockey franchise from the Annapolis Valley region of Nova Scotia. The team is a member of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League and plays in the EastLink Division. They play their home games in the Kings Mutual Century Centre in Berwick, Nova Scotia. History The Antigonish Bulldogs were founded in 1967 as members of the Antigonish-Pictou-Colchester Junior B Hockey League. After two seasons the league became the Northumberland Junior B Hockey League. In 1974, the Bulldogs became a founding member of what became the Eastern Junior A Hockey League, but returned to the Northumberland League in 1975. The Bulldogs would win league titles and provincial titles in 1979, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, and 1985.
