Chet Culver
Chester John Culver (born January 25, 1966) is an American politician who served one term as the 41st governor of Iowa, from 2007 to 2011. A member of the Democratic Party, he had previously served as the 29th secretary of state of Iowa from 1999 to 2007. He was elected governor in the 2006 Iowa gubernatorial election and ran unsuccessfully for reelection in 2010, losing to former Governor Terry Branstad. He was also elected as the federal Liaison for the Democratic Governors Association, serving from 2008 to 2009. He founded the Chet Culver Group, an energy sector consulting firm, in 2011 after he left public office. As of , he is the most recent Governor of Iowa from the Democratic Party. Ellsworth Culver (April 14, 1927 – August 15, 2005) was an American humanitarian and aid worker and the co-founder of Mercy Corps International. Career Wesley Ellsworth Culver claims he had a strong commitment to humanitarian service and promoting peace and social justice in the United States and around the world. But he was also a mass abuser of young girls, through explicit photos, groping and molestation, and sexual assault on his own daughter and other young girls. Culver spent his early childhood in China. He had also lived and taught in pre-Castro Cuba, and worked in over 90 countries. Mercy Corps was aware of Culver's sexual abuse yet allowed him to remain in leadership roles and travel the world on their behalf for another 10 years. Frank Ward Culver (May 28, 1897 - December 12, 1955) was an American football player and attorney. He played college football for the University of Michigan in 1917 and 1919 and was selected as an All-American at the guard position in 1917. Early years Culver was born in Detroit in 1897 and graduated from Detroit Central High School. His father, Charles Culver, was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives starting in 1914. University of Michigan Culver attended the University of Michigan and played for the Michigan Wolverines under Fielding H. Yost in 1917 and 1919. Harry Hazel Culver (January 22, 1880 – August 17, 1946) was a real estate developer and promoter. He was born in Milford, Nebraska, the middle child of five of Jacob H. and Ada L. (Davison) Culver, who lived on a farm. At age 18, he enlisted in the Spanish–American War and served as a corporal and sergeant. After attending liberal arts college Doane College for a year, Culver studied business at the University of Nebraska for 3 years. From 1901 to about 1904, he worked in the Philippines in the mercantile business and as a reporter for the ''Manila Times'' and special customs agent. In Manila he wed Eunice Richardson of Lincoln, Nebraska. He began working in real estate in Southern California in 1910 for Isaac Newton Van Nuys. Henry Harrison Culver (August 9, 1840 – September 27, 1897) was an American businessman and philanthropist. He is best known for founding the Culver Academies. Early life Henry Harrison Culver was born near London, Ohio on August 9, 1840. His father was John Milton and his mother, Lydia Howard Culver. He had five siblings. Career Culver started a cooking range company with two of his brothers, Walter and Licius, which they incorporated in 1881 as the Wrought Iron Range Company in St. Louis. The company was very successful and Culver amassed a substantial fortune. After becoming ill, he retired in 1883 to the north shore of Lake Maxinkuckee, close to his wife's childhood home.
