Culture at 3, stylized as Culture @ 3, is a call with Cultural organizations in New York City that grew out of the city's shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is believed to be the first time the arts and cultural organizations of all genres have come together to address issues facing the cultural community. The call is led by the CIG Chair Taryn Sacramone with Sade Lythcott, CEO of the National Black Theatre and Lucy Sexton Lucy Sexton is a performer, director and choreographer who performs as Factress and is one half of Dancenoise. She is a Bessie Award winner, and later served as the organization's executive director before stepping down in 2020. As of 2014, she was ..., Executive Director of New Yorkers for Culture & Arts (NY4CA). Initially, a daily call brought together 500 participating organizations. Cultural Institutions Group
The Cultural Institutions Group (CIG) is a coalition of institutions providing cultural and educational resources to the public in New York City that are subsidized by the city. The group originated in the last quarter of the 19th century with planning efforts by New York City to cope with becoming a major city. The organizations joined together in the mid-20th century to discuss and improve working conditions in New York City. Today, the CIG includes 34 cultural institutions. History The National Black Theatre (NBT) is a non-profit cultural and educational corporation, and community-based theatre company born out of the civil rights movement to tell the stories of black theatre that did not often have a home in mainstream theatre.
