Cults (band)
Cults is an American indie pop band formed in New York City in 2010. The band first rose to prominence upon releasing their debut extended play, ''Cults 7″'' (2010), on their Bandcamp page. They subsequently signed to English singer Lily Allen's record label In the Name Of, an imprint of Sony Music to release their eponymous debut album (2011). A song from the album, "Bad Things" was sampled by American rapper J. Cole for his 2013 single " She Knows", on which they were credited as featured artists. History Cults formed in 2010 while guitarist Brian Oblivion (real name Ryan Mattos) and singer Madeline Follin, both from San Diego, were students in New York City. Oblivion went to New York University to study documentary cinema, while Follin went to The New School. Follin had previously recorded with punk band Youth Gone Mad on the album ''Touching Cloth''. Imperial Records
Imperial Records is an American record company and label started in 1947 by Lew Chudd. The label was reactivated in 2006 by EMI, which owned the label and back catalogue at the time. Imperial is owned by Universal Music Group. Early years to 1979 When Imperial was founded in 1947, it concentrated on rhythm and blues (R&B) and country music: Fats Domino, Frankie Ford, Ricky Nelson, and Slim Whitman. Paul Kostabi
Paul Indrek Kostabi (also known as Ena; born October 1, 1962 in Whittier, California, United States) is an American artist, musician, record producer and audio engineer. He is the brother of artist Mark Kostabi. Kostabi was a founding member of the bands Youth Gone Mad, White Zombie, and Psychotica. Kostabi currently performs with Tony Esposito in the group Kostabeats and with Walter Schreifels band Dead Heavens. Kostabi became part of the CBGB Festival in 2014 exhibiting paintings alongside photographers Bob Gruen, Michael Lavine and Chris Stein. He also painted live in Times Square while Devo and Jane's Addiction performed. Touching Cloth
''Touching cloth'' is a studio album by the American punk band Youth Gone Mad. It includes songs written and performed with Dee Dee Ramone, formerly of the Ramones. The song "Guns" was originally written by Youth Gone Mad, but first recorded by Southern California hardcore punk band D.I. (band), D.I. Its appearance on ''Touching cloth'' marks the first studio recording of "Guns" by Youth Gone Mad, despite having been written two decades earlier. "Amoeba" is a cover song, originally recorded by Adolescents (band), Adolescents. The version here features vocals by a young Madeline Follin who would go on to form Cults (band), Cults. Follin also sang on the original tune "Go Outter" and a cover of "Killer in Your Radio" (originally by Hammerbrain). Youth Gone Mad
Youth Gone Mad is an American punk rock band founded in Los Angeles, California, United States, in 1980 by Paul Kostabi, Paul "ENA" Kostabi (also of White Zombie (band), White Zombie and Psychotica). Youth Gone Mad signed onto the Posh Boy Records roster, scored a minor radio hit with "Oki Dogs" in 1981, and played with bands such as Black Flag (band), Black Flag, Caustic Cause, The Mentors, MDC (band), The Stains, Fear (band), Fear, and others. The band migrated east to New York, and went through numerous line-up changes along the way. At one time or another, the ranks included future Cults (band), Cults singer Madeline Follin and Dee Dee Ramone and Joey Ramone from the Ramones. The New School
The New School is a private research university in New York City. ''Cults'' is the debut album by American indie pop band Cults. The album was released in the US on June 7, 2011 on In the Name Of, an imprint of Columbia Records. The album was recorded over the course of 2010 and early 2011. In early 2010, the band released an EP, which featured two of the songs to appear on the album; "Go Outside" and "Most Wanted". The song "Go Outside" was featured on the soundtrack of the game '' MLB 11: The Show'' on PlayStation 3. The song "Bad Things" also appears in the Hulu true crime drama series '' The Act'' during the end credits of the third episode "Two Wolverines", and it was sampled on the track " She Knows" by rapper J.
