The Television Operator Certification exam demonstrates knowledge required for entry-level, non-technical television master control operators. Many television stations now require this certification for employment. Cancelled-to-order
A cancelled to order (also called and abbreviated CTO) postage stamp, philatelic symbol , is a stamp the issuing postal service has cancelled (marked as used), but has not traveled through the post,Bennett, Russell and Watson, James; ''Philatelic Terms Illustrated'', Stanley Gibbons Publications, London (1978). but instead gets handed back to a stamp collector or dealer. They can come from withdrawn stocks of stamps cancelled in sheets and sold as remainders or from new sheets for sale at reduced rates to the stamp trade. Postal services of various countries do this in response to collector demand, or to preclude stamps issued for the collector market being used on mail. Some of the history of CTOs is from stamps being given to collectors on an approval basis, in person or through mailings; the first CTOs began in the late 19th century. Activated Carbon
Activated carbon, also called activated charcoal, is a form of carbon commonly used to filter contaminants from water and air, among many other uses. It is processed (activated) to have small, low-volume pores that increase the surface area available for adsorption (which is not the same as absorption) or chemical reactions. Activation is analogous to making popcorn from dried corn kernels: popcorn is light, fluffy, and has a surface area that is much larger than the kernels. ''Activated'' is sometimes replaced by ''active''. Due to its high degree of microporosity, one gram of activated carbon has a surface area in excess of as determined by gas adsorption. Charcoal, before activation, has a specific surface area in the range of . An activation level sufficient for useful application may be obtained solely from high surface area. Further chemical treatment often enhances adsorption properties. Activated carbon is usually derived from waste products such as coconut husks; waste ... City Ticket Office
A city ticket office (CTO), booking office, or city ticket counter is a retail office for an airline, essentially a travel agency specializing in that particular carrier's flights. Until the 1990s, many major airlines had storefronts in luxury shopping districts. Today, few remain. When airlines used paper tickets, certain kinds of travel changes required in-person visits to these ticket offices to physically modify or exchange the ticket, but with the introduction of electronic tickets in 1994, their importance diminished and many were closed as passengers bought tickets over the internet instead. City ticket offices were formerly very common worldwide. Although they are still common in many parts of the world,John Ollila, "TBT: Airline City Ticket Offices!", ''LoyaltyLobby'June 24, 2021/ref> they have become rare in the United States.Barbara Peterson, "The Death of the Airline Ticket Office", ''Condé Nast Traveler''September 29, 2017/ref> For example, American Airlines once had ...
