Crónicas
''Crónicas'' ("chronicles") is a 2004 Ecuadorian thriller film, written and directed by Sebastián Cordero. The film was produced by, among others, Guillermo del Toro, director of ''Pan's Labyrinth'', and Alfonso Cuarón, director of '' Children of Men''. It was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival. Overview Set in rural Ecuador, the movie follows a television journalist named Manolo Bonilla (played by John Leguizamo) as he investigates the rape and murder of children in the area. The film also stars Leonor Watling and José María Yazpik as Manolo's producer and cameraman, respectively. The film was the official Oscar selection from Ecuador in the Best Foreign Language category. Sebastián Cordero
Sebastián Cordero Espinosa (; born 23 May 1972) is an Ecuadorian film director, screenwriter and editor, often recognized for his work in '' Ratas, Ratones, Rateros'' (1999), ''Crónicas'' (2004), and '' Europa Report'' (2013). His films have been exhibited in festivals such as the Sundance Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival among others. Career He first became interested in filmmaking when he saw '' Raiders of the Lost Ark'' at the age of 9. At the age of 18 he began his studies in film and script making in the University of Southern California. After his graduation he moved back to Ecuador with the idea of filmmaking in a country where there was practically no movie industry. Damián Alcázar
Damián Alcázar (born January 8, 1953) is a Mexican actor and politician, who is best known outside of Mexico as Lord Sopespian in '' The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian''. He was a deputy in the Constituent Assembly of Mexico City. José María Yazpik
José María Yazpik (born November 13, 1970) is a Mexican actor. Biography Yazpik was born in Mexico City, the son of gynaecologist Jose Maria Meza and housewife Cristina Yazpik. He has two siblings, Carlos and Cristina. When Yazpik was a child, Meza decided to move the family to San Diego, California. He started a practice in Tijuana, which bordered the two countries. The family settled in La Jolla, a wealthy district of San Diego. After loans were taken out on the forecasted profits of the new practice, the two boys were enrolled at St. Augustine High School, an all-boys school directed by priests. Camilo Luzuriaga (born in Loja, Ecuador 1953) is an Ecuadorian film producer, actor, writer, photographer, and director. Filmmaking Luzuriaga has produced, directed, edited, and written various movies, short films, and documentaries. Luzuriaga's directorial debut was the film adaption of José de la Cuadra's novelette ''La Tigra'' (1989), which starred Lissette Cabrera, was hailed by critics as the rebirth of Ecuadorian cinema.
