Crystal Lake is an unincorporated community in Anderson County, located in the U.S. state of Texas. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 20 in 2000. It is located within the Palestine, Texas micropolitan area. History Crystal Lake had several homes and a golf course in the 1930s. A church called Antioch Church and several scattered homes were located in the community in 1982 and only one business was reported in the community in 1985. It had a population of 20 in 2000. Geography Crystal Lake stands along U.S. Highway 84 and the Texas State Railroad, east of Palestine in eastern Anderson County. It stands near a lake with the same name. Economy Crystal Lake is a thriving church and recreation community with fishing and camping facilities that are used by the Crystal Lake Country Club. Palestine ( ) is a city in and the seat of Anderson County in the U.S. state of Texas. It was named for Palestine, Illinois, by preacher Daniel Parker, who had migrated from that town. The city had a 2020 U.S. census population of 18,544, making it the sixth-largest incorporated municipality in Northeast Texas by population. Texas State Railroad
The Texas State Railroad is a historic heritage railroad between Rusk and Palestine, Texas. Built by inmates, it was founded in 1883 by the state of Texas to haul raw materials for a smelter at the prison at Rusk. Regular service on the line was ended in 1921. The state leased the line to private companies until 1969, then turned it over to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in 1972. In 2007, the railroad was transferred to the Texas State Railroad Authority and is now operating as a scenic tourist line. It is currently operated on a limited, year-round schedule. Today, the railroad has a total of five steam locomotives (two of which are operational) and three diesel locomotives in their current roster.
