''Cruis'n'' is a series of racing video games originally developed by Eugene Jarvis for Midway Games and published by Midway and Nintendo. The series distinguishes itself from other racing games with its over-the-top presentation and fast-paced gameplay, featuring a wide variety of vehicles and tracks based on a variety of real world locations. The series debuted in North American and European arcades in 1994 with the release of ''Cruis'n USA'', which, along with ''Killer Instinct'', was advertised as running on Nintendo's Ultra 64 hardware. Cruis'n World
''Cruis'n World'' is the 1996 sequel to the 1994 arcade racer ''Cruis'n USA''. ''Cruis'n World'' allows players to race on various tracks around the world. The game also features more cars than ''Cruis'n USA''. This game introduced stunts to the ''Cruis'n'' series. They served to dodge obstacles, take close curves and so. If the stunt makes the vehicle fly in the air, the game gives the player extra seconds of time. The game also uses small rocket boosts to speed up. The game was later released on the Nintendo 64 in 1998, being the best received of the ''Cruis'n'' ports. ''Cruis'n USA'' is an arcade game, arcade racing video game, racing game originally released in 1994. It was developed by Eugene Jarvis' company TV Games Inc., and manufactured by Midway Games. It is the first game in the ''Cruis'n'' series and features races set in locations across the continental United States. ''Cruis'n USA'' is branded as the first release of the "Ultra 64" platform collaboration between Midway and Nintendo, although it was based on the Midway V-unit arcade hardware, predating the ''Killer Instinct (1994 video game), Killer Instinct'' arcade hardware which would become the Nintendo 64. ''Cruis'n Blast'' is a racing video game developed and published by Raw Thrills. Originally released for the arcades, it was released in 2017 and is the sixth installment in the ''Cruis'n'' series. The game was released for the Nintendo Switch on September 14, 2021 by Raw Thrills. The Nintendo Switch version includes additional modes, cars and tracks. Gameplay ''Cruis'n Blast'' provides the same gameplay as its predecessors, where the player races on different tracks under a time limit to reach the goal, passing checkpoints along the way to help extend the time limit. The races take place in different locations, such as Death Valley, London, Rio de Janeiro, Madagascar, and Singapore. The game includes the ability to upgrade the car in order to have an edge in the race. Unlike the other Cruis'n games, this version does not have an ending scene if the player wins all the stages. ''Cruis'n Exotica'' is a 1999 racing video game developed for arcades by Midway Games. The game is a sequel to ''Cruis'n World'' and is the third entry in the ''Cruis'n'' series. It was ported by Gratuitous Games and released on the Nintendo 64 in 2000, along with a Game Boy Color version developed by Crawfish Interactive. Gameplay ''Cruis'n Exotica'' plays similarly to the previous games in the series, but it adds a PIN system to track progress like ''San Francisco Rush 2049''. ''Cruis'n Velocity'' is a racing game and the fourth game in the ''Cruis'n'' series. The game was developed by Graphic State and released by Midway for the Game Boy Advance in 2001. It is the only game in the series not to be preceded by an arcade release and features slightly different gameplay from its predecessors. The game uses the same engine as ''Dark Arena'', a first-person shooter game also developed by Graphic State, to achieve a pseudo- 3D effect. This approach garnered the game mixed reviews. Raw Thrills, Inc. is an arcade game entertainment company based in Skokie, Illinois. It is best known for developing arcade games based on films. Eugene Jarvis
Eugene Peyton Jarvis is an American game designer and video game programmer, known for producing pinball machines for Atari and video games for Williams Electronics. Most notable among his works are the seminal arcade video games '' Defender'' and '' Robotron: 2084'' in the early 1980s, and the ''Cruis'n'' series of driving games for Midway Games in the 1990s. He co-founded Vid Kidz in the early 1980s and currently leads his own development studio, Raw Thrills Inc. In 2008, Eugene Jarvis was named the first Game Designer in Residence by DePaul University's Game Development program. His family owns the Jarvis Wines company in Napa, California.
