Croydon Railway Station, Adelaide
Croydon railway station is located on the Grange and Outer Harbor lines. Situated in the western Adelaide suburb of Croydon, it is 4.2 kilometres from Adelaide station. History Croydon station opened in 1888, with the station buildings and platforms transferred from the former Torrens Bridge station. The station has been unattended since 1981. The provides easy access to the popular Queen Street/Elizabeth Street cafe and retro shop strip, as well as a children's park. Wheelchair access ramps and sheltered seating areas are located on both platforms. Lights displaying the warning 'Caution More Than One Train' have been installed at pedestrian crossings near the station as part of an Adelaide-wide crossing safety upgrade program. Croydon, South Australia
Croydon is an inner western suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. It is located in the City of Charles Sturt. History The land on which the suburb now stands was purchased in 1853 by Alfred Watts and Philip Levi. They laid out the ''Village of Croydon'' in 1855, comprising ''Croydon Farm'' of and lots of up to . The village may have been named after Croydon, England, then a part of Surrey, the same county in which Levi had been born. In 1904, market gardener and greengrocer John Brooker founded a jams and conserves business on Queen Street, producing "Croydon" branded products. The business prospered, leading to the construction of the Croydon Jam Factory on the corner of Queen Street and Princes Street in 1945. However production was soon moved to Woodville North in 1951. Adelaide Metro is the public transport system of Adelaide, the capital city of South Australia. It is an intermodal system offering an integrated network of bus, tram, and train service throughout the metropolitan area. The network has an annual patronage of 79.9 million, of which 51 million journeys are by bus, 15.6 million by train, and 9.4 million by tram. The system has evolved heavily over the past fifteen years, and patronage increased dramatically during the 2014–15 period, a 5.5 percent increase on the 2013 figures due to electrification of frequented lines. Grange Railway Line
The Grange railway line is a suburban branch line in Adelaide, South Australia. History In September 1882, a line was opened from Woodville to Grange, built by the Grange Railway and Investment Company. Unlike the Adelaide to Port Adelaide route, which was built and operated by the South Australian Government, the Grange line was a private venture, constructed to tap into potential development in the area between Woodville and the coast. The new line ran into a bay platform at Woodville. Although there was a connection to the main line, it was not possible for Grange line trains to conveniently continue to Adelaide. The Grange railway company, with its rolling stock of two locomotives and four carriages, was not a financial success and was forced to operate on a shoestring budget right from the start. Outer Harbor Railway Line
The Outer Harbor railway line is a suburban branch line in Adelaide, South Australia. It runs from Adelaide station through the north western suburbs to Port Adelaide and Outer Harbor. It is 21.9 kilometres in length, and shares part of its run with the Grange line. It is operated by Adelaide Metro. Adelaide Railway Station
Adelaide Railway Station is the central terminus of the Adelaide Metro railway system. All lines approach the station from the west, and it is a terminal station with no through lines, with most of the traffic on the metropolitan network either departing or terminating here. Torrens Bridge Railway Station
Torrens Bridge railway station was a short-lived railway station on the Outer Harbor line in North Adelaide. The location of the station was east of Bonython Park. It was located about from Adelaide station. The station was opened in 1883 as the result of a petition from a pressure group on behalf of residents of North Adelaide. Facilities consisted of two side platforms, buildings on both platforms and a footbridge between them. As its name suggests, the station was located just north of the railway bridge that crossed the River Torrens. South Road and its southern section as Main South Road outside of Adelaide is a major north–south conduit connecting Adelaide and the Fleurieu Peninsula, in South Australia.
