Croydon North is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 29 km north-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Maroondah local government area. Croydon North recorded a population of 8,092 at the 2021 census. Croydon has 3 major shopping strips, two on either side of Maroondah Highway (continuing shortly down Dorset and Exeter roads) and the other on Exeter road just next to Kinta Ct. It was created in the redistribution of electoral boundaries in 2013, and came into effect at the 2014 state election. It largely covers the area of the abolished district of Kilsyth, covering outer eastern suburbs in Melbourne. It includes the suburbs of Croydon, Mooroolbark, Ringwood North, Kilsyth and Bayswater North. City Of Croydon
The City of Croydon was a local government area about east of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The city covered an area of , and existed from 1961 until 1994. History Croydon was originally part of the Shire of Lillydale, which was incorporated as a district on 19 September 1856, and as a shire in 1872. Croydon itself became the centre of a severance movement, and was incorporated as a shire on 24 May 1961. After much local debate, it was proclaimed as a city on 22 May 1971. The City of Maroondah is a local government area in Victoria, Australia in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Maroondah had a population of 117,498 in June 2018. The City of Maroondah was created through the amalgamation the former Cities of Ringwood and Croydon in December 1994. The name 'Maroondah' was taken from two Aboriginal words - meaning "throwing" and "leaf" - symbolising the green environment. Croydon is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 28 km east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Maroondah local government area. Croydon recorded a population of 28,608 at the 2021 census. History Dating back to 1840 the land was first utilised by settlers for grazing and the first road cut through the area now known as Croydon, was initially known as Sawmill Road, as a sawmill was nearby. Later it became known as Oxford Road and later Mt Dandenong Road, some time in the early 1900s. Owing to the coarse silvery-white grass, the area now known as Croydon was first called "White Flats".
