Croydon Football Club is an English semi-professional football club based in Croydon, London. Until 2006, they played in the Isthmian League, but lost their place in that league as part of the 2006 re-structuring of non-league football, and now play in the . They play at Croydon Sports Arena in South Norwood. The club was founded in 1953 as Croydon Amateurs. History The club was founded in 1953 as Croydon Amateurs FC and its original players came from some of the stronger clubs playing in local football. The club was specially formed to play at the Croydon Arena (still its home today) when it was officially opened in 1953. The team made its debut at the Arena against Malden Town on Saturday 5 September 1953, winning 4-3. South Norwood
South Norwood is a district of south-east London, England, within the London Borough of Croydon, Greater London and formerly in the historic county of Surrey. It is located 7.8 miles (12.5 km) south-east of Charing Cross, north of Woodside and Addiscombe, east of Selhurst and Thornton Heath, south of Crystal Palace/ Upper Norwood and Anerley, and west of Elmers End and Penge. Together with Norwood New Town, it forms the electoral ward of South Norwood in the local authority of Croydon. The ward as a whole had a resident population in 2001 of just over 14,000. The south-eastern side of the district is dominated by the country park which opened in 1989. Arena Tram Stop (Croydon)
Arena tram stop is a light rail stop in the Woodside area of South Norwood in the London Borough of Croydon in the southern suburbs of London. The stop is located by the Croydon Sports Arena and serves the council estates of Longheath Gardens Estate and Tollgate Estate. The tram stop is located on a section of line which follows the trackbed of the former Woodside and South Croydon Railway, although there was no station at the location prior to the opening of Tramlink. The stop is at ground level on double track, with platforms on each side of the tracks. Immediately to the east of the station is a junction where services diverge either to the north along a section of route specially constructed for Tramlink, or continue straight ahead along the former railway right of way. London Trams, previously Tramlink and Croydon Tramlink, is a light rail tram system serving Croydon and surrounding areas in South London, England. It began operation in 2000, the first tram system in the London region since 1952. It is managed by London Trams, a public body part of Transport for London (TfL), and has been operated by FirstGroup since 2017. Tramlink is one of two light rail networks in Greater London, the other being the Docklands Light Railway. Stefan Steve Payne (born 10 August 1991) is an English footballer who plays as a forward for Faversham Town. He began his career in non-league football with Croydon and Sutton United before joining Fulham, and made his professional debut for Gillingham in League Two in 2010. He did not maintain a first-team place at Gillingham and dropped back into non-league between 2012 and 2016, moving clubs frequently. After two prolific seasons in the Conference Premier for Dover Athletic he signed for Championship club Barnsley, where he did not feature frequently. Lee James Brown (born 10 August 1990) is an English professional footballer who plays as a left-back for League Two club AFC Wimbledon. Brown formerly played for Queens Park Rangers, Salisbury City, Hayes & Yeading United and Bristol Rovers, spending seven seasons with the latter club and amassing 321 appearances before joining Portsmouth and then AFC Wimbledon.
