Croydon FC, formerly known as Croydon Kings, is an Australian semi-professional soccer club in Adelaide, South Australia. Croydon FC currently competes in the National Premier Leagues South Australia. They play home games at Polonia Reserve at Croydon in Adelaide's inner northern suburbs. They are one of the most successful sides in South Australian soccer. The club's ethnic background is Polish Australian and the club was founded as the Polonia Adelaide Sports Club on 16 June 1950 by Alek Cmielewski and Karol Metanomski. History Early years The club entered the 3rd division of the SASFA competition in 1952 and won the championship in its first year. They recruited 3 key players from their Polish rival being Izydor Sierocinski, Jerry Demczuk and Stanislaw Czerkawski for the clearance fee of £2. Travis Dodd (born 6 January 1980) is an Australian former Association football, football (soccer) player who last played for North Eastern MetroStars SC in the National Premier League - South Australia competition. He played as an Attacking midfielder#Attacking midfielder, attacking midfielder or Midfielder#Winger, winger and also played as a Forward (association football), striker. He was the first Indigenous Australian to score for the Australian national team. The National Premier Leagues South Australia (often abbreviated to NPL South Australia or NPL SA) is a semi-professional football competition in the Australian state of South Australia. The league is a subdivision of the second tier National Premier Leagues, which sits below the A-League on the national pyramid. The Football South Australia Federation Cup, commonly known as the Federation Cup, is a knockout cup competition in Australian football, run by Football South Australia. The competition's origins date to 1907 when a club competition with six teams (Cambridge, North Adelaide, Norwood, Port Adelaide, South Adelaide, and West Adelaide) was established under the auspices of the British Association. In that first year, Cambridge defeated Hindmarsh in the final. Since 2014 the Federation Cup has been incorporated as one of the qualification tournaments to determine participants in the national FFA Cup, now known as the Australia Cup. The FFSA Super League was the highest state-level soccer competition in South Australia between 2006 and 2012. Prior to the 2006 season, the highest level competition in South Australia was the SASF Premier League. Due to the manifestation of a new governing body, Football Federation Australia the SASF ceased operations. Nationally, it was one grade lower than the A-League.
