Crowden Railway Station
Crowden railway station is a closed railway station on the Woodhead Line between Manchester Piccadilly Station, Manchester and Sheffield Victoria railway station, Sheffield, that served the hamlet of Crowden, Derbyshire between 1861 and 1957. History The section of the Sheffield, Ashton-under-Lyne and Manchester Railway (SA&MR) between (then known as Glossop) and opened to public traffic on 8 August 1844, but initially there was no station between and Woodhead. At the start of 1847, the SA&MR amalgamated with other companies to form the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway (MS&LR). On 1 August 1897, the MS&LR was renamed the Great Central Railway and this was merged with other railways to form the London and North Eastern Railway on 1 January 1923. Crowden, Derbyshire
Crowden (also known as Crowden-in-Longdendale) is a hamlet in the High Peak borough of Derbyshire, England. Historically a part of Cheshire, Crowden was incorporated into Derbyshire for administrative and ceremonial purposes in 1974 and is now Derbyshire's most northerly settlement. It lies in the Longdendale valley, north-east of Glossop and south-west of Holme in West Yorkshire. It lies on the trans- Pennine A628 road connecting Greater Manchester and South Yorkshire. It also lies very close to the Pennine Way long distance footpath, on which it is traditionally the first-night stop after Edale. Woodhead railway station was a railway station that served the hamlet of Woodhead on the Woodhead Line. Hadfield Railway Station
Hadfield railway station serves the Peak District town of Hadfield in Derbyshire, England. The station is one of the twin termini at the Derbyshire end of the Manchester-Glossop Line, the other being Glossop. It was opened by the Sheffield, Ashton-under-Lyne and Manchester Railway in 1844. The line formerly continued east of Hadfield to Penistone and Sheffield via the Woodhead Tunnel. Passenger trains on the Woodhead Line were withdrawn east of Hadfield on 5 January 1970, followed by complete closure in 1981. The tracks were lifted several years later, but the trackbed is still visible and has been partly adapted as a footpath. Woodhead Reservoir
Woodhead reservoir is a man-made lake near the hamlet of Woodhead in Longdendale in north Derbyshire. It was constructed by John Frederick Bateman between 1847 and June 1877 as part of the Longdendale chain to supply water from the River Etherow to the urban areas of Greater Manchester. It is at the top of the chain of reservoirs and was the first to be started, though, due to construction problems, it was the last to be completed. Act of Parliament The Manchester Corporation Waterworks Act 1847 gave permission for the construction of the Woodhead and Arnfield reservoirs and the aqueduct of the Mottram Tunnel.
