Crosskeys College
Coleg Gwent - Crosskeys (generally known as Crosskeys College) is the largest campus of Coleg Gwent. It is located next to Risca Road in Crosskeys, near Newport in Wales. The college was previously a technical college and a coal mining college. However, since the demise of heavy industry in the area over the past decades, the college has now become the leading further education establishment in the area. Many of the secondary schools in the area are without a sixth-form and so they feed Crosskeys college with students. The majority of students in Crosskeys are studying AS & A2 levels, of which there are over 30 to choose from. There are also BTECs, National Diplomas, GNVQs and GCSEs that are available to study. It boasts a 100% pass rate on the vast majority of its courses. Coleg Gwent ( en, Gwent College) is Wales' largest further education college at various locations in the former county of Gwent, South Wales. It has 24,000 students ranging from secondary school leavers to mature students. A wide range of part-time and full-time academic and vocational courses are on offer at the college. Campuses The college operates from five campuses – City of Newport, Crosskeys, Pontypool, Usk and Blaenau Gwent. The college's administrative headquarters are located at the Usk campus. Ebbw Vale (; cy, Glynebwy) is a town at the head of the valley formed by the Ebbw Fawr tributary of the Ebbw River in Wales. Oakdale Comprehensive School
Oakdale Comprehensive School was a comprehensive school located in the village of Oakdale, Caerphilly Oakdale in Caerphilly county, Wales. The total enrollment was about 660 pupils aged 11 to 16. Sixth-form provision was at Coleg Gwent in Crosskeys and Ystrad Mynach College. History The school opened in 1968 as a Secondary Modern School catering for 350 pupils and closed in 2016. Pupils from Oakdale and Pontllanfraith Comprehensives transferred into Islwyn High School. The school's closed in 2016 as a result of the 21st Century Schools Project in Wales. Pontllanfraith ( cy, Pontllanfraith ) is a large village and community located in the Sirhowy Valley in Caerphilly County Borough, Wales, within the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire. It is situated adjacent to the town of Blackwood, with the Sirhowy River passing through both locations. The village includes the communities of the Penllwyn, Springfield and The Bryn. GNVQ
A General National Vocational Qualification, or GNVQ, was a certificate of vocational education in the United Kingdom. The last GNVQs were awarded in 2007. The qualifications related to occupational areas in general, rather than any specific job. They could be taken in a wide range of subjects. There were different levels of GNVQ, namely the Intermediate level (equivalent to four General Certificates of Secondary Education) and Advanced level (equivalent to two Advanced-level General Certificates of Education). GNVQs were available to people of all ages. Many schools and colleges offered these courses and they could be studied alongside GCSEs or A levels. Crosskeys ( cy, Pont-y-cymer) is a village, community and an electoral ward in Caerphilly county borough in Wales. Etymology The village was originally named Pont-y-cymer and this remains the official Welsh name for the village. The name means ''bridge at the confluence of rivers'', and suggests the area was known as a place to bridge the confluence of the Ebbw and the Sirhowy rivers, long before its urban development in the nineteenth century. Business And Technology Education Council (BTEC)
The Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) is a provider of secondary school leaving qualifications and further education qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Whilst the T in BTEC previously stood for Technical, according to the DFE (2016) it now stands for Technology. BTECs originated in 1984 and were awarded by Edexcel from 1996. Their origins lie in the Business Education Council, formed in 1974 to "rationalise and improve the relevance of sub-degree vocational education". It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Pearson plc.
