Crosskeys ( cy, Pont-y-cymer) is a village, community and an electoral ward in Caerphilly county borough in Wales. Etymology The village was originally named Pont-y-cymer and this remains the official Welsh name for the village. The name means ''bridge at the confluence of rivers'', and suggests the area was known as a place to bridge the confluence of the Ebbw and the Sirhowy rivers, long before its urban development in the nineteenth century. The English name is taken from the Cross Keys Inn (now known as the Cross Keys Hotel), The English name appears as ''Crosskeys'' on Ordnance Survey maps, and the railway station also uses this spelling. Caerphilly () is a constituency of the Senedd. It elects one Member of the Senedd by the first past the post method of election. Also, however, it is one of eight constituencies in the South Wales East electoral region, which elects four additional members, in addition to eight constituency members, to produce a degree of proportional representation for the region as a whole. Coleg Gwent ( en, Gwent College) is Wales' largest further education college at various locations in the former county of Gwent, South Wales. Cwmcarn High School
Cwmcarn High School was a school in the village of Cwmcarn, in South East Wales. The school (for school years 7–11) also had a sixth form where pupils could return to continue their education in a familiar environment. The students and people in the area always praised Cwmcarn High, and many protests took place to attempt to keep the school open. There were prior to the closure of the school short of 400 students attending CHS including the 6th form. This represented a considerable decrease in numbers since 2012. The school was closed for over a year over asbestos fears in 2012 which was why there had been such a fall in the school roll.Due to this and the ever falling school roll, it was confirmed by Caerphilly County Borough Council that the school will close in 2018. Tredegar (pronounced , ) is a town and community situated on the banks of the Sirhowy River in the county borough of Blaenau Gwent, in the southeast of Wales. Ebbw Vale (; cy, Glynebwy) is a town at the head of the valley formed by the Ebbw Fawr tributary of the Ebbw River in Wales. Ebbw Vale Line
The Ebbw Valley Railway ( cy, Rheilffordd Cwm Ebwy) is a branch line of the South Wales Main Line in South Wales. Transport for Wales Rail provides an hourly passenger service each way between Ebbw Vale Town and Cardiff Central, and an hourly service each way between Crosskeys and Newport. The line was opened by the Monmouthshire Railway and Canal Company and the Great Western Railway (GWR) operated a passenger service from the 1850s between Newport and Ebbw Vale. The line became part of British Railways Western Region in 1948, following the nationalisation of the railways. Passenger services were withdrawn in 1962. However, the route continued to be used to carry freight to and from the Corus steelworks in Ebbw Vale, until its closure in 2002. Proposals to re-open the existing freight railway line to passenger services were first mooted in 1998. Crosskeys Railway Station
Crosskeys railway station is a station serving the village of Crosskeys in the Caerphilly County Borough in Wales. It is on the Ebbw Valley Railway. The station is situated near the former station site closed in 1962, behind houses on Risca Road and Carlton Terrace. The access to the station is via a one-way system off High Street exiting via Carlton Terrace. Crosskeys is a two-platform station and there is no car park. The station provides good access to the village and Crosskeys College. The station marks the end of the double-track passing loop between Risca and Crosskeys; upon leaving Crosskeys trains enter the single track which extends to the railhead in Ebbw Vale Town.
