Oliver County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Dakota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 1,877. Its county seat and only city is Center. History The Dakota Territory legislature created the county on April 14, 1885, with territory partitioned from Mercer County. It was named for Harry S. Oliver of Lisbon, North Dakota, a Republican politician and member of the Dakota Territory House of Representatives at the time. The county government was organized on May 18, with Sanger (then known as "Bentley") as county seat. The seat was moved to Center in 1902. Washburn is a city in southern McLean County, North Dakota, United States. Located along the upper Missouri River, it is the county seat of McLean County. The population was 1,300 at the 2020 census. Washburn was founded in 1882 near the former site of Fort Mandan, winter quarters of the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1804-1805, near a Mandan village. The North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department is the state agency that administers selected state parks and recreation areas for the state of North Dakota. History In 1965, the North Dakota Legislative Assembly established the North Dakota Park Service, along with the State Outdoor Recreation Agency to assist the Park Service with planning park improvements. In 1977, the agencies were merged and renamed the North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department. The agency manages thirteen state parks, seven state recreation areas, seven nature preserves, state trails, and outdoor education statewide. The North Dakota Legislative Assembly is the state legislature of the U.S. state of North Dakota. The Legislative Assembly consists of two chambers, the lower North Dakota House of Representatives, with 94 representatives, and the upper North Dakota Senate, with 47 senators.
