Crogga River
The Crogga River is a river in the Isle of Man. Crogga River issues close to the Mount Murray Hotel and Country Club and meanders slowly downhill into the lake in front of the hotel (across which the 18th and later the 9th hole used to be played) and then drops to Murray's Lake before becoming the impassable Crogga River Glen on its way down towards Crogga Glen and Port Soderick and its Manx National Glens. The Crogga River forms, for the greater part of its course, the boundary between not only Braddan and Santon (parish), Santon but also the boundary between the Central Valley, Isle of Man, Central Valley and the South Island, Isle of Man, South Island. Mount Murray
Mount Murray is a hill above sea level on the Isle of Man located at the northern end of Santon, near the boundaries with Marown and Braddan parishes. It is named after Lord Henry Murray, 4th Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man. Often referred to simply as The Mount and formerly as Cronk Glass ''(green hill),'' Mount Murray is home to the Chibbanagh Plantation and nine of the eighteen holes of the Mount Murray Golf Club. History The hill was originally known as ''Ais Hólt'', meaning Holt's Hill, and giving rise to derivations of the name: ''Ash hole'' (1703), ''Ashold'' (1734) and ''Ashole'' (1739). Port Soderick
Port Soderick ( glv, Purt Soderick) is a small hamlet to the south of Douglas, capital of the Isle of Man, once famed for its pleasure grounds and beach. In latter years there have been various attempts to rejuvenate the area, all of which have been unsuccessful to date. It still has a station on the steam railway. The beach area had its own small promenade and hotel (latterly named "The Anchor" but now closed and abandoned), a suspended walkway (now closed and deemed unsafe), former oyster beds and sealion pool, a large building formerly housing an amusement arcade, paddling pool (long since filled in by shingle from the incoming tide), and access to the nearby glen of the same name. These days the place is something of a ghost town, disturbed only by the occasional dog walker, but it once had its own funicular railway linking the sea level resort with the Douglas Head Marine Drive Railway atop the cliffs above, the remnants of which can still be traced today. Braddan
Braddan ( gv, Braddan) is one of the seventeen parishes of the Isle of Man. It is located on the east of the island (part of the traditional ''South Side'' division) in the sheading of Middle. Administratively, a small part of the historic parish of Braddan is now covered by part of the borough of Douglas, the capital and largest town of the Isle of Man. Santon ( gv, Stondane), historically Santan, is one of the seventeen historic parishes of the Isle of Man. It is located in the south-east of the island (part of the traditional ''South Side'' division) in the sheading of Middle. Settlements in the parish include Newtown. Registered Buildings Of The Isle Of Man
This is a list of Registered Buildings and Conservation Areas of the Isle of Man. It includes buildings and structures in the Isle of Man designated by Isle of Man's Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture (DEFA) "as having special architectural or historical interest". Over 250 buildings and structures are listed, and 275 more have been identified as having potential for listing. It also lists the 21 Conservation Areas, historic districts" which protect "period"-type architecture, quality of building materials, relationships of enclosures and open spaces, and other aspects of the look and feel of historic buildings and areas.
