The Croatian Handball Cup ( hr, Hrvatski rukometni kup) is a national team handball competition in Croatia operated by the Croatian Handball Federation. It has been held annually since Croatian independence in 1991 and succeeded the former Yugoslavian Handball Cup. Team Handball
Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. The goals are surrounded by a zone where only the defending goalkeeper is allowed; goals must be scored by throwing the ball from outside the zone or while "diving" into it. The sport is usually played indoors, but outdoor variants exist in the forms of field handball, Czech handball (which were more common in the past) and beach handball. The Croatian Handball Federation ( hr, Hrvatski rukometni savez; abbr. HRS) is the governing body of handball in Croatia. It is based in Zagreb. Rukometni klub Zagreb ( en, Zagreb Handball Club, ) is a men's professional handball club from Zagreb, Croatia. It competes in the Croatian Premier League, SEHA League, and the EHF Champions League. RK Zagreb won 33 national championships and won the national cup 27 times. The club was also European champion twice and played another four times in the finals, and is among top eight most successful handball clubs in the EHF Champions League's history. RK Metković
Rukometni klub Metković – Mehanika is a men's professional handball club from Metković, Croatia. It is the only club to win a domestic title and the Croatian Cup, except RK Zagreb. Due to economic difficulties the club has not competed in Croatian Handball Premier League between 2010 and 2022. The first club was founded on 26 September 1963 under the name Mehanika. RK Metković has changed its name several times since his foundation, so it played under the names of Razvitak, Metković Jambo, and another team Metković 1963 until reunification. Today, this club has men's and women's section. COVID-19 Pandemic In Croatia
The COVID-19 pandemic in Croatia has resulted in confirmed cases of COVID-19 and deaths. The first case in the Republic of Croatia was reported in Zagreb on 25 February, when a patient who had come from Italy was tested positive. On the same day, the second case related to the first one was confirmed. In March 2020, a cluster of cases were reported in numerous Croatian cities. On 12 March, the first recovery was reported, and on 18 March, the first death from the virus was confirmed. The pandemic in Croatia occurred during the Croatian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. On 22 March 2020, Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, was hit by the strongest earthquake in 140 years, causing problems in the enforcement of social distancing measures set out by the Croatian government, as the country engaged in a period of lockdown in the later part of the first half of 2020. RK Lokomotiva
Rukometni Klub Lokomotiva Zagreb ( en, Lokomotiva Zagreb Handball Club) is a Croatian professional women's handball club from Zagreb. They are currently competing in the 2022–23 Women's EHF Champions League. Lokomotiva was the most successful team in the Yugoslav Women's Handball Championship, Yugoslav Championship's early stages, winning eight championships between 1956 and 1970. In 1975, the team reached the final of the EHF Women's Champions League, European Cup after winning its ninth championship. However, the following fifteen years were unsuccessful, with RK Radnički Belgrade, Radnički Belgrade dominating the championship. RK Podravka
Rukometni Klub Podravka Koprivnica is a Croatian women's handball club from Koprivnica. It is the most successful club in Croatian women's handball since formation of the league in 1992. The team currently competes in the Croatia women's first handball league. They have a fan club called Red Roosters formed in 2002. History The club was established in 1955 under the name Ivo Marinković and played its first friendly match in December against Grafičar Bjelovar. First official game was played in April 1956 against Slavija Čakovec. In 1956 team was renamed to RK Partizan. In seasons 1960/1961 and 1962/1963 Partizan became amateur champion of SR Croatia.
