The Croats (; hr, Hrvati ) are a South Slavic ethnic group who share a common Croatian ancestry, culture, history and language. They are also a recognized minority in a number of neighboring countries, namely Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia. Croatian National Alliance
The Croatian National Alliance ( hr, Hrvatski narodni savez, abbreviation: HNS) was a political party of ethnic Croats in autonomous province of Vojvodina, Serbia. Founding session was held on December 6, 1998, in Subotica. The party seat was in Subotica. Chronologically, HNS was second party of Croats from Serbia and first that emerged from dissatisfied fraction from Democratic Alliance of Croats in Vojvodina, DSHV. Majority of founders were former members of DSHV (Branko Horvat,...). The President of Initiating Committee was Franjo Vujkov became the President. In local elections in Serbia 2000, HNS went into coalition with its "mother" party, DSHV. Coalition achieved results, so HNS got several mandates. Čedomir "Čeda" Jovanović ( sr-cyr, Чедомир "Чеда" Јовановић, ; born 13 April 1971) is a Serbian politician and businessman. During the presidency of Slobodan Milošević in Yugoslavia, Jovanović became one of the student leaders of the 1996–1997 protests in Serbia at the age of 25. Jovanović along with fellow student Čedomir Antić were one of the founding members of the "Student Political Club", abbreviated in Serbian as SPK, which successfully organized a massive boycott of the 1997 Serbian general election. In February 1998, the bulk of the SPK membership along with Jovanović himself joined the Democratic Party. After the overthrow of Slobodan Milošević, Jovanović was selected by the Democratic Opposition of Serbia to be one of its MPs, and he subsequently became the youngest parliamentary caucus leader in Serbian history, at the age of 29. 2008 Serbian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Serbia on January 20 and February 3, 2008. Incumbent President Boris Tadić was re-elected as president in the second round with 51% of the vote, defeating challenger Tomislav Nikolić. The elections for president were the first since Serbia became independent, when the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro was dissolved by the secession of Montenegro in 2006. The first round of elections was held on January 20, 2008, when none of the candidates secured an absolute majority of the votes cast. Bunjevac-Šokac Party
Bunjevac-Šokac Party ( hr, Bunjevačko-šokačka stranka) was a political party of Croats in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, part of province of Bačka (today Serbia). The party was founded on September 15, 1920, in order to continue the organized political activity of Croats from Bačka (Bunjevci and Šokci), which had its tradition even before World War I. The party made good results on the parliamentary elections in 1920 and 1923. Its leader was Blaško Rajić. After November 28, 1924, a crisis in party came because of disagreements among membership about the visions of organized political life of Croats in Bačka in future. Šokci
Šokci ( sh, / , italics=yes, , ; , ; hu, Sokácok) are a South Slavic ethnic group native to historical regions of Baranya, Bačka, Slavonia and Syrmia. These regions today span eastern Croatia, southwestern Hungary, and northern Serbia. They primarily self-identify as a subgroup of Croats and therefore they are not considered a separate ethnicity in Croatia and elsewhere. Population Šokci are considered to be a native population of Slavonia and Syrmia in Croatia. The Croatian Bureau of Statistics does not record the Šokci as a separate ethnicity (2001). According to the 2011 census in Serbia, 607 people declared as ethnic Šokci.
