Criticom
''Criticom'' is a 1995 fighting game, fighting video game developed by Kronos Digital Entertainment for the PlayStation (console), PlayStation. It was originally released by Vic Tokai on November 29, 1995 followed by a Sega Saturn port in 1996. An early Polygonal modeling, polygonal 3D fighting game, it features a mystery sci-fi backstory and eight fighters from across the galaxy, each attempting to get their hands on a crystal artifact. Critics praised the game's visuals and presentation but widely panned its gameplay mechanics. Gameplay The fighting action takes place on a round, elevated platform. Each fighter begins the fight with a full power meter and one power meter refill in reserve that is activated when the primary meter is depleted. There are no rounds. The fight runs until one fighter is knocked out (no more power in their meter), one is knocked out of the arena (or steps/jumps out), or the time runs out. Dark Rift
''Dark Rift'' is a 1997 3D fighting video game for the Nintendo 64 and Microsoft Windows, developed by Kronos Digital Entertainment and published by Vic Tokai. It is notable for being the first N64 game to run at 60 frames per second. Though ''Dark Rift'' has been referred to as the Nintendo 64's first native fighting game, in actuality it started development as a Sega Saturn game. In addition, it was originally announced that the Windows version of the game would precede the Nintendo 64 version by one month. Gameplay Players choose from eight playable characters to start; there are also two hidden characters which are unlocked by completing the game in single-player mode. Kronos Digital Entertainment
Kronos Digital Entertainment was an American video game developer, founded by Stan Liu in 1992. It developed original properties, beginning with the visually appealing early 3D graphics, 3D fighting games ''Criticom'', ''Dark Rift'' and ''Cardinal Syn'' (called the "Trilogy of Terror" by one gaming journalist). Kronos gained greater critical and commercial success for its later ''Fear Effect'' series with Eidos Interactive, Eidos, and retained all rights to the franchise. It was developing the third Fear installment, ''Fear Effect Inferno'', when Eidos discontinued funding following a major budget restructuring. The developer then shopped the game around to other publishers before failing to secure a deal and finish it. It dissolved soon after, finally releasing ''Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix''. Point of View, Inc. was a privately held developer of video games headquartered in Irvine, California. It is known for working with Midway Games on many titles including ''NFL Blitz'', ''Ready 2 Rumble Boxing'', and '' MLB Slugfest 2004''. The company was dissolved in 2010. History Point of View was founded in February 1996 by three game industry veterans. The leaders of the company are founders Chris Warner (President) Mark Nausha (Vice President Business Development) and Mike Terlecki (Vice President of Technology). Tekken (video Game)
is a 1994 fighting game developed and published by Namco. It was originally released on Arcade game, arcades, then Porting#Porting of video games, ported to the PlayStation (console), PlayStation home console in 1995. One of the earliest 3D computer graphics, 3D Polygonal modeling, polygon-based games of the genre, ''Tekken'' was Namco's answer to ''Virtua Fighter'' and was designed by Seiichi Ishii, who himself was also ''Virtua Fighter (video game), Virtual Fighter'' designer when he worked at Sega previously. ''Game Players'' was a monthly video game magazine founded by Robert C. Lock in 1989 and originally published by Signal Research in Greensboro, North Carolina. The original publication began as ''Game Players Strategy to Nintendo Games'' (the cover featured a disclaimer that claimed it had no affiliation with Nintendo, which already had its official publication in ''Nintendo Power'').
