Critical Music is a British independent record label based in north London, England. The label is the owned and run by DJ and producer Kasra Mowlavi and releases mostly Drum and bass records. Since it was started back in 2002, Critical Music has grown significantly and become a widely recognized name on the underground music scene. The label has released tracks by a number of artists including Enei, Rockwell, Spectrasoul, Calibre and Break and has a reputation for finding and developing new artists. ''Resident Advisor'' has described the label as "A wealth of innovation, growth and experimentation abounds at 170 beats per minute right now, and you can't get a much better—or more comprehensive—approximation of it all than through the discography of London's Critical Recordings." Drum And Bass
Drum and bass (also written as drum & bass or drum'n'bass and commonly abbreviated as D&B, DnB, or D'n'B) is a genre of electronic dance music characterized by fast breakbeats (typically 165–185 beats per minute) with heavy bass and sub-bass lines, samples, and synthesizers. The genre grew out of the UK's rave scene in the 1990s. The popularity of drum and bass at its commercial peak ran parallel to several other UK dance styles. A major influence was the original Jamaican dub and reggae sound that influenced jungle's bass-heavy sound. Another feature of the style is the complex syncopation of the drum tracks' breakbeat. Independent Record Label
An independent record label (or indie label) is a record label that operates without the funding or distribution of major record labels; they are a type of small- to medium-sized enterprise, or SME. Calibre (artist)
Dominick Martin, better known by his stage name Calibre, is a Northern Irish drum and bass music producer and DJ from Belfast. He started producing at a young age. He is a classically trained musician, playing a variety of musical instruments. Martin started producing Drum and Bass in 1995 and his first signed release was credited under the now defunct Quadrophonic record label. He soon came to the attention of drum and bass DJ Fabio, who signed Calibre to his record label, Creative Source. While studying Fine Arts at the University of Ulster in Belfast, he became interested in the music of John Cage whose work was influential in titling Martin's first album release ''Musique Concrète'' in 2001. Imanu
Jonathan Immanuel Kievit (born 14 November 1998), known professionally as Imanu (stylized as IMANU), formerly as Signal is a French-born Dutch DJ, record producer and musician. Career After being exposed to trance and progressive house by a friend at the age of 10, Kievit started producing house at the age of 14. A few years later he discovered the music by Dutch trio Noisia and subsequently started producing drum and bass. Eventually, Dutch drum and bass artist Fre4knc also sent a song by Kievit to Noisia, who then signed him under the alias ''Signal'' to their label ''Invisible Recordings'' when Kievit was only 16 years old.
