Critical Language Scholarship Program
The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program is a United States Department of State United States Cultural Exchange Programs, cultural and educational exchange program which offers approximately 600 undergraduate or graduate level students from the United States the opportunity to participate in an intensive language study abroad. This nationally competitive program funds students who study one of the 15 critical need foreign languages, and is part of the National Security Language Initiative. National Security Education Program
The National Security Education Program (NSEP) was a U.S. federal government initiative to enhance the national security of the U.S. by increasing the national capacity to understand and interact effectively with foreign cultures and languages. NSEP oversaw nine critical initiatives designed to attract, recruit, and train a future national security workforce. Some funding came in exchange for a commitment to U.S. federal government service upon completion of academic study. Swahili, also known by its local name , is the native language of the Swahili people, who are found primarily in Tanzania, Kenya and Mozambique (along the East African coast and adjacent litoral islands).
