Cristallina Hut
The Cristallina Hut (German ''Cristallinahütte'', Italian ''Capanna Cristallina'') is a mountain hut of the Swiss Alpine Club, located in the Lepontine Alps in the Swiss canton of Ticino--specifically, On the west side of the Cristallina mountain. The original Cristallina Hut was built in 1939, but was almost completely destroyed during an avalanche in 1999, the third avalanche to cause the hut serious damage. It was rebuilt in 2002, 150 meters lower, on the Cristallina Pass, situated between the Bavona valley and the Val Bedretto, at an altitude of 2575 meters. Mountain Hut
A mountain hut is a building located high in the mountains, generally accessible only by foot, intended to provide food and shelter to mountaineers, climbers and hikers. Mountain huts are usually operated by an Alpine Club or some organization dedicated to hiking or mountain recreation. They are known by many names, including alpine hut, mountain shelter, mountain refuge, mountain lodge, and mountain hostel. It may also be called a refuge hut, although these occur in lowland areas (e.g. lowland forests) too. Mountain huts can provide a range of services, starting with shelter and simple sleeping berths. Some, particularly in remote areas, are not staffed, but others have staff which prepare meals and drinks and can provide other services, including providing lectures and selling clothing and small items. Swiss Alpine Club
The Swiss Alpine Club (german: Schweizer Alpen-Club, french: Club Alpin Suisse, it, Club Alpino Svizzero, rm, Club Alpin Svizzer) is the largest mountaineering club in Switzerland. It was founded in 1863 in Olten and it is now composed of 111 sections with 160,000 members (2020). These include the Association of British Members of the Swiss Alpine Club. Bedretto is a municipality and a village in the Val Bedretto, the upper most part of the river Ticino. It belongs to the district of Leventina in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. History In 1906 pre-Roman graves and a Roman era villa and coins were discovered in Bedretto. The presumption, that it was originally part of Airolo, could not be confirmed by any available records. Bedretto is first mentioned in 1210 as ''Bedoledo'' and at that time it was a separate municipality.
