Cricket In Kenya
Cricket is a popular sport in Kenya. Kenya has competed in the Cricket World Cup since 1996. They upset some of the world's best teams and reached semi-finals of the 2003 tournament. They also won the inaugural World Cricket League Division 1 hosted in Nairobi and participated in the World T20. Their most successful player is Steve Tikolo, who captained the team to the semi-finals of the 2003 Cricket World Cup Cricket has always been played only at club level in cities like Nairobi, Kisumu, Nakuru and central province. But there never was a competition where these cities played each other until the Zonal League was started. African Cricket Association
The Africa Cricket Association (ACA) is an international body which coordinates the development of cricket in Africa. The ACA was founded in 1997, and has 23 member countries. The role of the ACA includes promoting the development of cricket in Africa and organising some regional tournaments. These have included the ACA Africa T20 Cup and the Africa Women's Twenty20 Championship, as well as intercontinental tournaments like the Afro-Asia Cup. The role of the ACA is complementary to the International Cricket Council (ICC), which organises the regional qualifying tournaments for global events. 2011 Cricket World Cup
The 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup was the tenth Cricket World Cup. It was played in India, Sri Lanka, and for the first time in Bangladesh. India won the tournament, defeating Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in the final at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, thus becoming the first country to win the Cricket World Cup final on home soil. India's Yuvraj Singh was declared the man of the tournament. This was the first time in World Cup history that two Asian teams had appeared in the final. It was also the first time since the 1992 World Cup that the final match did not feature Australia. Fourteen national cricket teams took part in this tournament, including 10 full members and four associate members of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Kennedy Otieno
Kennedy Otieno Obuya (born 11 March 1972), also known as Kennedy Otieno, is a former Kenyan international cricketer. A right-handed batsman and wicketkeeper, Otieno is the brother of fellow internationals Collins Obuya, Collins and David Obuya. Domestic career In 2008, Otieno was selected as captain of The Southern Stars, a team in Kenya's recently launched domestic cricket competition the Sahara Elite League. His most recent big scores came when he made 93 in The Southern Stars only win in the One day edition of the Sahara Elite league. as well as two centuries in the 2-day league earning him a recall to the national squad. International career Kennedy made his ODI debut in 1996, but had his finest innings in 1997, a 144 against Bangladeshi cricket team, Bangladesh, in a then-world-record 225 partnership with Dipak Chudasama.
