Crewe Alexandra F.C. Academy
The Crewe Alexandra F.C. Academy is the player development centre of English Football League club Crewe Alexandra F.C. Set up by manager Dario Gradi in the late 1980s, it achieved official status as an FA Youth Academy in the late 1990s. By concentrating on developing its own players the club remained profitable (a rare thing in lower-division football at the time) by selling them on after they have gained experience with Crewe. The Academy is known to stress technical excellence, which accords with the aim to have the first team play attractive, passing football. Academy graduates include full England internationals Rob Jones, Danny Murphy, Seth Johnson and Dean Ashton and Wales international David Vaughan, plus the club's current manager and assistant manager. Crewe Alexandra F
Crewe () is a railway town and civil parishes in England, civil parish in the unitary authority of Cheshire East in Cheshire, England. The Crewe built-up area had a total population of 75,556 in 2011, which also covers parts of the adjacent civil parishes of Willaston, Cheshire East, Willaston, Shavington cum Gresty and Wistaston. David John Artell (born 22 November 1980) is a professional football manager and former player who most recently was manager of club Crewe Alexandra. He began his career as a centre back with Rotherham United, as the "Millers" won successive promotions from the Third Division to the First Division in 1999–2000 and 2000–01. He joined Shrewsbury Town on loan for the 2002–03 season, before successive two-year spells with Mansfield Town and Chester City, then joining Morecambe in July 2007. Lewis Carl Billington (born 17 February 2004) is an English professional footballer plays as a defender for Crewe Alexandra. Billington signed a scholarship deal with Crewe Alexandra's Academy in 2020. He made his Crewe debut on 10 April 2022 in an EFL League One game against Doncaster at Keepmoat Stadium, starting the game at right-back before being replaced by Sean Lawton in stoppage-time. Paul Junior Bignot (born 14 February 1986) is an English former professional footballer who played as a defender. He played in the Football League with Crewe Alexandra, Blackpool, Plymouth Argyle and Grimsby Town and Newport County, and in Non-league football with Kidderminster Harriers, Solihull Moors, Barrow and AFC Telford United. Ryan Austin (born 15 November 1984) is an English professional football manager and former player. Playing career Austin was born in Stoke-on-Trent. After starting out as a trainee at Crewe Alexandra in 2004 he was later promoted to the first-team. He then had a successful loan spell at Burton Albion impressing manager Nigel Clough. Benjamin Paul Amos (born 10 April 1990) is an English professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Wigan Athletic.
