Creditrans was a travel card used to travel around Biscay, in the Basque Country (Spain). The card was the most popular ticket in the area, used by over 100 million passengers in 2007. History When the Metro Bilbao system was created in 1995 the local authorities realized that the transport system integration around Bilbao was very deficient. There were four rail companies (five after the opening of the tramway) and two bus companies, each one with different zones and fare systems, plus different ticket machines and even ticket sizes. The ''Biscay Transport Consortium'' (''CTB''), created in 1975 to build the underground, was the public company that would lead the efforts to overcome the situation. Metro Bilbao
The Bilbao metro ( es, Metro de Bilbao, eu, Bilboko metroa) is a rapid transit system serving the city of Bilbao and the region of Greater Bilbao. Lines 1 and 2 have a "Y" shape, as they transit both banks of the river Ibaizabal and then combine to form one line that ends in the south of Bilbao. Barik () is rechargeable contactless smart card, electronic money used for public transport in Biscay (Spain). It was launched on 2012 as successor of Creditrans travel card. Bilbobus
Bilbobus is the name for metropolitan bus services in Bilbao. The service is owned by the city council of Bilbao. Operations will be transferred to Veolia Transport, the company that won the contract in May 2008. The buses can be distinguished by their red colour and large white lettering, and there are 28 major lines serving the city, with eight smaller lines connecting the town centre with neighborhoods with narrow streets where normal buses can't drive. Plus eight night lines, called Gautxori. Bilbobus has recently won a European Union prize for service excellence. It is part of a wider transport network operated by the Basque government, recent additions to which include the Metro Bilbao underground and the tram line. They link the Renfe, Euskotren Trena and FEVE train services and are heavily integrated by means of the Barik card to provide ease of movement in the city. Artxanda Funicular
The Artxanda Funicular ( eu, Artxandako funikularra; es, Funicular de Artxanda) is a funicular railway in the city of Bilbao in Spain's Basque Country. It links downtown Bilbao with the recreational area at the summit of the nearby Artxanda Mountain, which has a park, several restaurants, a hotel, a sports complex, and offers panoramic views of the city. History A cable railway to the top of the Artxanda mountain was first proposed in 1901, but not built due to lack of finance. The current funicular was opened in 1915. During the Spanish Civil War the funicular was damaged by bombing, but reopened in 1938. The funicular closed in 1976 after an accident that injured several employees of the operating company, and did not reopen again until April 1983. Vizcaya Bridge
The Vizcaya Bridge (''Bizkaiko Zubia'' in Basque, ''Puente de Vizcaya'' in Spanish) is a transporter bridge that links the towns of Portugalete and Las Arenas (part of Getxo) in the Biscay province of Spain, crossing the mouth of the Nervion River. BizkaiBus is the name for bus services serving the province of Biscay, Spain. It is named after the Basque name of the province, ''Bizkaia''. Cercanías Bilbao (Basque: ''Bilboko Aldiriak'') is a commuter rail network in Bilbao, serving the city and its metropolitan area.
