Crasna, Sălaj
Crasna or Kraszna ( ro, Crasna; hu, Kraszna) is a commune in Sălaj County, Crișana, Romania. It lies 14 km northwest of Zalău and 11 km southeast of Șimleu Silvaniei, on the river Crasna. It is composed of four villages: Crasna, Huseni (''Krasznahosszúaszó''), Marin (''Máron'') and Ratin (''Ráton''). History Its name originates from the Slavic word ''krasna,'' meaning "beautiful". The village was first mentioned in 1213, as ''Karasna''. It had a castle which was still inhabited in the 17th century. It was the county seat of the historical Kraszna county of the Kingdom of Hungary until 1876. Later it belonged to the Kraszna district of Szilágy County until the Treaty of Trianon, which gave it to Romania. Population * In 1910 it had 3884 residents, with a significant Hungarian majority (3790 people). Bistra ( ro, Bistra; uk, Бистрий; rue, Быстрый; hu, Petrovabisztra) is a commune in Maramureș County, Maramureș, Romania. The Ukrainian border is located to the north of the commune. It is made up of three villages: Bistra (commune seat), Crasna Vișeului ( hu, Petrovakraszna; rue, Красна Вишовська) and Valea Vișeului ( hu, Visóvölgy; uk, Вишiвска Дοлина; rue, Вишовська Долина). Krasne (Ukrainian ; Russian /'; Romanian ''Crasna'') is a village in the Odesa Oblast, Ukraine, with about 1,300 inhabitants (2001). It belongs to Tarutyne settlement hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. History The territory of Bessarabia was established in 1812 in Peace of Bucharest from the Ottoman Vassal Prinzipality of Moldavia together with the Budjak in Imperial Russia. The new acquisition was treated as a colonization area and initially assigned to the Bessarabia Governorate. In 1814, colonists (mostly Germans) emigrated from the Duchy of Warsaw and established a colony in Bessarabia. The Crasna (Romanian) or Kraszna ( Hungarian) is the name of a river in northwestern Romania and northeastern Hungary. The Crasna is a left tributary of the Tisza. Its source is in Transylvania, Romania, near the village of Crasna. It flows through the Romanian counties Sălaj and Satu Mare and the Hungarian county Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg. It flows into the Tisza in Vásárosnamény. Cities along the Crasna are Șimleu Silvaniei in Romania, Nagyecsed and Mátészalka in Hungary. Until the 1890s the Crasna discharged into the river Someș.
