Cramer is an English surname and the Anglicized version of Dutch and Low German Kramer, or German Krämer (pronounced ). Both refer to the profession of traveling merchants in the Late Middle Ages. Ernst (Friedrich) Cramer (December 7, 1898 (Zürich/ Switzerland) – September 7, 1980) (Rüschlikon/ Switzerland) was a Swiss landscape architect and one of the most renowned European garden architects after 1945, who had a strong influence on present-day landscape architecture in Europe. Biography Ernst Cramer learned the profession of a gardener at a renowned firm in Zürich, where he was instructed by the landscape architect Gustav Ammann, a close friend of Richard Neutra and one of the most important Swiss garden architects at the time. When Cramer started his own business in 1929, he mostly designed private gardens for wealthy clients and perfected a romantic, rather picturesque style. Helene Cramer
Helene Cramer (13 December 1844 – 14 April 1916) was a German flower, landscape and portrait painter. Life Cramer came from a wealthy merchant family in Hamburg-Uhlenhorst. Like her sister, the painter Molly Cramer, she also began her training as a painter in 1882 after the death of their father Cesar Cramer. At the beginning of their studies Helene was 38 years old. The sisters first teachers were the Hamburg illustrator as well as the painters Carl Rodeck and Carl Oesterley. At the end of the 1880s Helene Cramer went to The Hague to train under Margaretha Roosenboom and together with her sister at the Belgian still life painter Eugène Joors in Antwerp. Joors taught them in the art of still life painting. Returning to Hamburg, Helene Cramer mainly painted still life flower pieces. Harald Cramér (; 25 September 1893 – 5 October 1985) was a Swedish mathematician, actuary, and statistician, specializing in mathematical statistics and probabilistic number theory. Cramér remained close to Stockholm for most of his life. He entered the University of Stockholm as an undergraduate in 1912, where he studied mathematics and chemistry. Hans Cramer
Hans Cramer (13 July 1896 – 28 October 1968) was a German general in the Wehrmacht during World War II. Career Cramer enlisted in the Prussian Army on 10 August 1914 and served in World War I; he was retained in the Reichsheer. In September 1939 he took part in the invasion of Poland as commander of a detachment. In March 1941 he was appointed commander of tank regiment in the 15th Panzer Division, which became part of the German Africa Korps. In 1942 Cramer was appointed as Chief of Staff to the Chief of Armoured Troops, Mechanized Troops and Cavalry at the OKH, and then to the post itself. During late 1942 to January 1943 he temporarily commanded the XXXVIII Panzer Corps and the XI Army Corps. In February 1943 he returned to Africa as commander of the Afrika Korps. Harry Griffith Cramer III (born 1953) is an American folk singer from the Pacific Northwest. He was born an army brat at Fort Bragg, North Carolina where his father was one of the Army's original Green Berets. Hank's father, Harry Griffith Cramer Jr., was killed in Vietnam on October 21, 1957, the first Special Forces soldier to die in that conflict. Hank Cramer began singing professionally during his college days at the University of Arizona (1972-1976). After graduation he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army, serving 14 years in the Regulars and 14 years in the Army Reserve. Gabriel Cramer (; 31 July 1704 – 4 January 1752) was a Genevan mathematician. He was the son of physician Jean Cramer and Anne Mallet Cramer. Biography Cramer showed promise in mathematics from an early age. Franz Anton Dorotheus Cramer or François Cramer (12 June 17721 August 1848) was an English violinist and conductor who was Master of the King's/Queen's Musick from 1834 until his death. He was born in either Mannheim or London, the son of Wilhelm Cramer and the brother of Johann Baptist Cramer. He was no doubt his father's pupil. Next to nothing seems to be known about his activities or compositions, yet he was appointed Master of the King's Musick in 1834, by King William IV, succeeding Christopher (or Christian) Kramer, who was no relation. The king died in 1837, and Cramer continued as Master of the Queen's Musick to Queen Victoria. He did not contribute any music to her coronation, leading ''The Spectator'' to complain that he had been allowed "to proclaim to the world his inability to discharge the first, and the most grateful duty of his office — the composition of a Coronation Anthem".
