Craigton, East Dunbartonshire
Milngavie ( ; gd, Muileann-Ghaidh) is a town in East Dunbartonshire, Scotland and a suburb of Glasgow. It is on the Allander Water, at the northwestern edge of Greater Glasgow, and about from Glasgow city centre. It neighbours Bearsden. Milngavie is a commuter town, with much of its working population travelling to Glasgow to work or study. The town is served by Milngavie railway station on the North Clyde Line of the SPT rail network, which links it to Central Glasgow. In 2018 the Scottish Government published statistics for the town showing that the population increased to 13,537 in 6,062 households. The town is also a popular retirement location, with a high number of elderly people living there. The ''Milngavie and Bearsden Herald'', owned by Johnston Press, is a weekly newspaper that covers local events from the schools, town halls, community and government in the area. Craigton ( gd, Baile Chreig) is a residential suburb in the southwest of the city of Glasgow, Scotland. Located approximately from the city centre, it is bordered by Bellahouston Park to the south and Halfway to the west, with Cardonald beyond. The area was historically farming land for Govan, which is nearby to the north across the M8 motorway and Inverclyde Line railway tracks. A pedestrian underpass, previously a road on which city trams operated, leads north from Craigton under the motorway onto Craigton Road, which is within the Drumoyne neighbourhood. Historically the Craigton Road area was occupied by Craigton Farm, while the estate of Craigton House was acquired to build the Craigton neighbourhood (developed for housing between the World Wars, as were Drumoyne and other nearby developments like the contrasting Moorepark and Mosspark projects). Cardonald (Ward 4) is one of the 23 wards of Glasgow City Council. It was created in 2007 as Craigton and returned four council members using the single transferable vote system. The same name and boundaries were used in the 2012 elections. For the 2017 Glasgow City Council election, the name was changed (Craigton is the name of a historic estate and was used as a ward name in past versions of the town authority, but in modern times the urban neighbourhood known by that name did not fall within its boundaries, whereas the whole of the larger Cardonald district did) although the territory and councillor numbers remained the same. North Kessock (Gaelic: ''Ceasag a Tuath'' or ''Aiseag Cheasaig'') is a village on the Black Isle north of Inverness. Description North Kessock is the first village encountered over the Kessock Bridge. Now bypassed by the main road to the north (the A9), the village remains quiet. Its counterpart across the Beauly Firth, South Kessock, is a district of Inverness. History North Kessock probably existed as early as 1437, when the Dominican monastery in Inverness was granted a charter to operate a ferry to the Black Isle. This was on the pilgrim route north to St Duthac Church in Tain. Recently the community has been involved in a long running dispute over the location of glass recycling bins. The matter was settled after a community ballot organised by Highland Council where 67% of those who responded voted to site the bins in the main car park.
