Craddockstown Novice Chase
The Craddockstown Novice Chase is a Grade 2 National Hunt racing, National Hunt Novice (racehorse), novice Steeplechase (horse racing), steeplechase in Ireland which is open to Horse racing, horses aged four years or older. It is run at Punchestown Racecourse, Punchestown over a distance of about 2 miles (2 miles and 40 yards, or 3,255 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in November. The race was first run in 1995. For a period the event was classed at Grade 3 level. It was promoted to Grade 2 status in 2003. Punchestown Racecourse
Punchestown Racecourse is located in the parish of Eadestown, between the R410 and R411 Regional road (Ireland), regional roads near Naas, County Kildare, in Republic of Ireland, Ireland. It is known as the home of Irish Jumps Racing and plays host to the annual Punchestown Irish National Hunt Festival. The racecourse itself is right-handed with an undulating hurdle and steeplechase track. The hurdle course is one mile six furlongs in distance while the chase course is 2 miles. Punchestown Racecourse also has the only cross country banks course in Ireland. As well as horse racing, Punchestown has hosted several music events, including the annual Oxegen festival which ran from 2004-2011 and then again in 2013, while AC/DC, Bon Jovi and Eminem are among the artists to have played sold out concerts on the racecourse. Sizing John
Sizing John (foaled 13 May 2010) is a British-bred, Irish trained thoroughbred racehorse who competes in National Hunt racing. He is trained by Jessica Harrington and owned by Ann and Alan Potts, and is best known for winning the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 2017. He has been ridden in most of his races by Jonathon Burke, but has more recently been ridden Robbie Power, including all four of his Grade 1 wins over fences (the Cheltenham Gold Cup, the Irish Gold Cup, the Punchestown Gold Cup and the John Durkan Memorial Punchestown Chase, all in 2017). He also won a Grade 1 over Hurdles, the Future Champions Novice Hurdle at Leopardstown in 2014, and spent much of his early chasing career finishing second or third in races won by Douvan, widely regarded as one of the best chasers of recent times. Tommy Treacy (jockey)
Thomas Treacy (2 March 1904 – September 1985) was an Irish hurler who played as a midfielder for the Tipperary and Dublin senior teams. Treacy made his first appearance on the inter-county scene during the 1927 championship and was a regular member of the Tipperary and Dublin teams at various times until the end of the 1943 championship. During that time he won two All-Ireland medals, three Munster medals, Leinster medal and one National League medal. Cork Racecourse
Cork Racecourse, also known as Cork Racecourse Mallow, is a horse racing venue at Mallow, County Cork, Ireland which stages both National Hunt racing and Flat racing. It is located 35 km north of Cork and 64 km from Limerick The course is right handed, one and a half miles round and has a straight sprint course of five furlongs. In 2017 work commenced on an extension to the straight course which will make it one of only two seven furlongs straights in Ireland. Francis Woods (jockey)
Francis Woods (January 27, 1822 – September 18, 1894) was a businessman and political figure in New Brunswick, Canada. He represented Queen's County in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1874 to 1882 as a Liberal member. He was born near Enniskillen in County Fermanagh, Ireland, the son of Anthony Woods, and moved to New Brunswick with his parents and grandparents around 1829. In 1852, he married Jane Elizabeth Armstrong. Woods was president of the Gagetown and Petersville Railway.
