Covina High School
Covina High School, commonly known as Covina High or CHS to the students, is a public high school located in Covina, California. Covina High School is one of three comprehensive high schools within the Covina-Valley Unified School District. Established in 1897, Covina High is the first and oldest high school in the school district and is accredited by Western Association of Schools and Colleges. There were approximately 1,650 students enrolled for the 2010–11 school year. Covina High School is one of the oldest establishments in Covina. Its original campus, Covina Union High School, was located off of S. Citrus Ave and W. Puente St. and was opened in 1897, just a few years before Covina became an incorporated city. Covina-Valley Unified School District or "C-VUSD," is a unified school district located in Covina, California, United States. C-VUSD serves most of Covina, a large portion of West Covina, small portions of Glendora, Irwindale and San Dimas and the unincorporated communities of Citrus, Ramona and Vincent. On June 15, 2020, the board of education unanimously appointed Dr. Elizabeth Eminhizer to serve as the superintendent of the Covina-Valley Unified School District. Michael Edward Lynn (born November 25, 1945) is an American former professional basketball player. He won two NCAA championships playing college basketball for the UCLA Bruins, then played professionally for two seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Lynn, a 6'7 forward from Covina High School in Covina, California, played for UCLA from 1964 to 1968. He won a championship as a sophomore (1965) and again as a fifth-year senior starter in 1968. Firehouse Five Plus Two
The Firehouse Five Plus Two was a Dixieland jazz band, popular in the 1950s, consisting of members of the Disney animation department. Leader and trombonist Ward Kimball was inspired to form the band after spending time with members of the Disney animation and sound department and finding that they had a lot in common as jazz aficionados. The lunchtime chats escalated into a full on lunchtime jam session as Kimball, an amateur trombonist, and animator Frank Thomas, a pianist, would find they "sounded pretty good all by ourselves." The band went by two names, the Huggajeedy Eight and the San Gabriel Valley Blue Blowers. The "Firehouse" motif came from a 1916 American LaFrance fire engine that Kimball restored for the local Horseless Carriage Club, and the "Plus Two" was from the fact the band had seven people. Ward Kimball
Ward Walrath Kimball (March 4, 1914 – July 8, 2002) was an American animator employed by Walt Disney Animation Studios. He was part of Walt Disney's main team of animators, known collectively as Disney's Nine Old Men. His films have been honored with two Academy Awards for Best Animated Short Film. Outside of his job as an animator, Kimball was a railroad enthusiast as well as a talented jazz trombonist. He founded and led the seven-piece Dixieland band Firehouse Five Plus Two, in which he played the trombone. Early life Kimball was born on March 4, 1914, in Minneapolis. James Martin Michael Hanifan (September 21, 1933 – November 24, 2020) was an American professional football player and coach. He served as the head coach for the St. Louis Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL) from 1980 to 1985 and as interim head coach for the NFL's Atlanta Falcons for four games in 1989, compiling a record of 39–53–1.
