Covert Love
Covert Love (foaled 14 April 2012) is an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. After being sold relatively cheaply as a yearling she showed some promise when finishing fifth in her only start as a two-year-old in 2014. In the following year she made rapid improvement, winning two minor races before winning the Hoppings Stakes and then stepping up to Group 1 class to take the Irish Oaks. She added a second Group 1 win in autumn when she won the Prix de l'Opéra in France. She was retired from racing in 2016 and was exported to become a broodmare in Japan. Background Covert Love is a bay mare with a white blaze and three white socks bred in County Cork by Sommerville Bloodstock. As a yearling in October 2013 she was sent to the Goffs Orby sale and was bought for €26,000 by the bloodstock agent Hugo Merry. Jazil (February 11, 2003 – October 11, 2014) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse. In 2006, Jazil dead-heated for fourth place in the Kentucky Derby but then won the Belmont Stakes, the final leg of the Triple Crown. Connections Jazil was owned by the Shadwell Stable. He was trained by Kiaran McLaughlin and ridden by Fernando Jara. He was bred in Kentucky by Skara Glen Stables. Spinning World (foaled 1993 in Kentucky, United States) is a French thoroughbred racehorse who was one of the top European milers during the 1990s. After winning the 1996 Irish 2,000 Guineas at The Curragh in Ireland, the first French horse ever to do so, and the Prix Jacques Le Marois at Deauville Racecourse in France, Spinning World finished second to Da Hoss in the Breeders' Cup Mile at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Following more Group One wins in 1997 in France, he returned for the Breeders' Cup Mile at Hollywood Park Racetrack, USA, which he won while equaling the track record. Spinning World was retired to stud duty after the 1997 racing season. Try My Best
Try My Best (1975–1993) was an American-bred, Irish-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. A son of Northern Dancer, he won the Dewhurst Stakes in 1978 and was the top-rated two-year-old in Britain and Ireland that year. Background Try My Best was a bay horse with three white socks bred by E. P. Taylor. Try My Best was sired by Northern Dancer out of the mare Sex Appeal, who also produced his full brother El Gran Senor. The colt was conditioned for racing by the Irish trainer, Vincent O'Brien. El Gran Senor (21 April 1981 – 18 October 2006) was a champion American-bred Thoroughbred race horse, foaled at Windfields Farm (Maryland). He was the best horse of his generation in Europe at both two and three years of age, ahead of an outstanding group of contemporaries which included Chief Singer, Darshaan, Rainbow Quest, Sadler's Wells, Lashkari, Pebbles, Commanche Run and Northern Trick. His only defeat in eight races came when he was beaten a short head by Secreto in the 1984 Epsom Derby. El Gran Senor received a ''Timeform'' rating of 136. Grey Swallow (19 February 2001 – 25 August 2021) was an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. In a racing career which lasted from July 2003 until October 2006 he competed in five countries and won six of his fifteen races. He was unbeaten in two races as a two-year-old including the Killavullan Stakes and won the Leopardstown 2,000 Guineas Trial Stakes on his first appearance of 2004. After being placed in both the 2000 Guineas and the Irish 2,000 Guineas he recorded his most important success when defeating The Derby winner North Light in the Irish Derby. As a four-year-old he defeated a strong field to win the Tattersalls Gold Cup, but did not win again in Europe. Zarkandar (foaled 20 April 2007) is an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse who competed in National Hunt races. A half-brother to the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Zarkava he won one of his three Flat racing, flat races before being gelded and becoming a specialist Hurdling (horse race), hurdler. He was the best juvenile hurdler of the 2010/2011 National Hunt season when he won the Adonis Juvenile Novices' Hurdle, Triumph Hurdle and Anniversary 4-Y-O Novices' Hurdle. The Dubai Sheema Classic is a Group 1 flat horse race in the United Arab Emirates open to thoroughbreds which are four-years-old or above. It is run over a distance of 2,400 metres (approximately miles; 2410 metres since 2010) on the turf track at Meydan Racecourse, Dubai, and it takes place annually during the Dubai World Cup Night in March. The race was first run in 1998, and it was initially titled the Dubai Turf Classic. The present name was introduced two years later. The event attained Group 1 status in 2002.
