Covert Coup
''Covert Coup'' is the first collaboration mixtape by rapper Currensy and producer The Alchemist. The mixtape featured guest appearances from rappers Prodigy of Mobb Deep, Freddie Gibbs, Smoke DZA and Fiend and contains ten songs. ''Covert Coup'' was created as a retail EP. Later, the artists decided to release it as a free digital mixtape. On April 7, 2011, the first single from ''Covert Coup'' titled "Ventilation" was leaked onto the internet. "Full Metal" was leaked on April 12. On April 15, the third single entitled "Scottie Pippen" featuring Freddie Gibbs, was leaked. The mixtape was announced by Currensy on April 20, 2011, via his Twitter. On May 8, 2012, the Alchemist released ''Covert Coup Instrumentals'', a project that includes the instrumental version of every track in the mixtape. Currensy
Shante Scott Franklin (born April 4, 1981), better known by his stage name Currensy (often stylized as Curren$y), is an American rapper. In 2011, he founded the label Jet Life Recordings. Music career 2002–2008: No Limit and Young Money In 2002, Currensy was signed to Master P's No Limit Records and was a late addition to the 504 Boyz. The song "Get Back" by 504 Boyz, produced by Donald XL Robertson, was featured on the 2003 film ''Malibu's Most Wanted'' soundtrack. Currensy appeared on 5 songs in Master P's '' Good Side, Bad Side'' album. Even though he was signed with No Limit, he represented C-Murder's TRU label. A mixtape (alternatively mix-tape, mix tape or mixed tape) is a compilation of music, typically from multiple sources, recorded onto a medium. With origins in the 1980s, the term normally describes a homemade compilation of music onto a cassette tape, CD, or digital playlist. The songs are either ordered sequentially or made into a continuous programme by beatmatching the songs and creating seamless transitions at their beginnings and endings with fades or abrupt edits. Fredrick Jamel Tipton (born June 14, 1982), better known by his stage name Freddie Gibbs, is an American rapper from Gary, Indiana. After initially being signed to Interscope Records in 2006, Gibbs recorded his debut studio album under the label. However, he was eventually dropped and the album was cancelled. Gibbs later signed with Young Jeezy's CTE World and released a number of mixtapes through the label, including 2012's highly acclaimed '' Baby Face Killa''. Mobb Deep was an American hip hop duo from New York City. The duo consisted of rappers Prodigy and Havoc. They are considered to be among the principal progenitors of hardcore East Coast hip hopEdwards, Paul, 2009, ''How to Rap: The Art & Science of the Hip-Hop MC'', Chicago Review Press, p. 323. and hip hop in the mid-1990s. Mobb Deep became one of the most successful rap duos of all time, having sold over three million records.
