Émile Cousinet, (12 November 1896 – 24 October 1964) was a French film producer and film director. Biography The son of a carpenter, Couzinet became a traveling projectionist and then director of the Royan Casino. In the 1920s, he decided to invest in the of movie theatres, including those of . In 1930, due to the unbridled competition of the barriers of Bordeaux, he acquired his own studios, the "Studios de la Côte de Beauté", a cinema complex installed in the seaside resort of Royan. Couzinet 30
The Couzinet 30 was a light transport aircraft / mailplane designed and built in France in 1930 at '' Société des Avions René Couzinet''. Design and development Following closely the design characteristics of the Couzinet Arc en Ciel and other Couzinet tri-motor transport aircraft, the Couzinet 30 was a low-wing cantilever monoplane with fixed spatted undercarriage, three engines mounted on the fuselage nose and in wing nacelles, as well as the characteristic up-swept fuselage, common to most of Couzinet's designs. Intended primarily as a mailplane the Couzinet 30 could also be fitted with three or four passenger seats in the cabin. Built of wood, with metal fittings the Couzinet 30 had a fixed tail-wheel undercarriage which could be fitted with spats throughout. Control was by conventional controls with ailerons, elevator and rudder. The birch ply skinned ailerons were in two parts, with one connected to the pilots controls and the other connected by an articulated joint, to ...

Couzinet 100
The Couzinet 100 was a three-engined, three-seat touring aircraft designed and built in France in 1930. Two variants, the Couzinet 101 and Couzinet 103, were very similar apart from their engines; no variant reached production. Design The Couzinet 100 series of touring aircraft was broadly similar to its contemporary the Couzinet 20 but was smaller, with a span reduced to 84%, carried three rather than five and had a fixed undercarriage. It used similarly low-powered engines and had Couzinet's characteristic fin, formed from the fuselage. The Couzinet 101 had a one piece, low, cantilever wing, constructed entirely from wood, with a single spar which ran from tip to tip and a rear false spar interrupted by the cabin. It was plywood-skinned and thick at the root but thinned progressively outboard from below, providing a little dihedral. Chord was also large at the root, where the wing was generously faired into the fuselage. The plan became trapezoidal outboard with long, app ...

Couzinet 70
The Couzinet 70 was a 1930s French three-engined commercial monoplane built by Société des Avions René Couzinet founded by René Couzinet. Design and developments The Couzinet 70 ''Arc-en-Ciel III'' ('Rainbow') was developed from the 1920s Couzinet 10 ''Arc-en-Ciel'', which first flew on 7 May 1928, the Couzinet 11 and Couzinet 40. The slightly larger span Couzinet 70 was developed originally as a mail plane for use of Aéropostale's South Atlantic service. It was a low-wing monoplane with a fixed tailwheel landing gear. The aircraft was powered by three Hispano-Suiza 12Nb inline piston engines. The two wing mounted engines could be accessed in flight through tunnels in the wing. After route-proving in 1933 the aircraft was modified and re-designated the Couzinet 71 and entered service with Aéropostale in May 1934. Variants ;10 ''Arc en Ciel'' :The original prototype four place long range aircraft, later converted to the Couzinet 11 ;11 ''Arc en Ciel II'' :Converted from ...

Couzinet 33
The Couzinet 33 Biarritz was a French long-range monoplane built by René Couzinet in the early 1930s. Design The Couzinet 33 was made of wood, with a thick cantilever wing with thickness of at the wing roots; with no dihedral on the upper surface. The wing main-spar was continuous from wing-tip to wing-tip; and the rear spars attached to the fuselage sides. The aircraft was covered with birch plywood, with the fuselage thinning to the rear, forming the characteristic tail of a René Couzinet signature aircraft. Couzinet designed the plane when he was 27 years old with only 28 flight hours. Operational history The biarritz made its first flight in November 1931, clocking up 27 hours flying before departing on a flight from Paris to Nouméa. From 6 March 1932 to 5 April 1932 Emile Munch, Max Dévé and Charles Verneilh flew the Biarritz from France to New Caledonia, the first time a direct flight had succeeded. On arrival at Nouméa the aircraft crashed and was destroyed. Biar ...

René Couzinet
René Couzinet (born 20 July 1904, Saint-Martin-des-Noyers, Vendée, died 16 December 1956) was a French aeronautics engineer and aircraft manufacturer. The Société des Avions René Couzinet manufactured a range of Couzinet aircraft during the 1920s and 1930s. Biography Couzinet's father was a school teacher, and from a very young age he was fascinated by aviation and observing the flight of swallows. In 1921 he enrolled at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts et Métiers (ENSAM) (School of Arts and Crafts) at Angers (with Louis Béchereau), where he both graduated and filed several aviation patents. In 1924 he attended the École supérieure de l’aéronautique (Graduate School of Aeronautics). He financed his studies by working in a turbine factory, before joining the French Air Force (''Armée de l'air'') in November 1925, where he became a lieutenant. In 1927, he built the Couzinet 10 ''Arc-en-Ciel'' (''Rainbow'') No 1, a modern shape for its time. It was a three-eng ...

Couzinet 22
The Couzinet 20 was a low power, three-engined aircraft designed in France in 1929 for postal duties, though it could have been configured to carry three passengers or as a medical transport. Variants flew with three different engines but only two airframes were completed. Design The Couzinet 20 strongly resembled the earlier Couzinet 10 ''Arc-en-Ciel'' but was markedly smaller, with a span reduced by about 40%. The smaller dimensions meant there was no longer access to the outboard engines in flight (both types were tri-motors) but the Type 20 was more advanced in having a retractable undercarriage. Both had Couzinet's characteristic fin, formed from the body rather than joined to it. It was a low wing cantilever monoplane. Its wing was entirely wooden, built around two box spars and plywood covered, with a thick section which thinned continuously from root to tip. In plan each wing was trapezoidal, though long tips produced an approximately elliptical form. Long narrow- ch ...
