Narrabri Shire
Narrabri Shire is a local government area in the North West Slopes region of New South Wales, Australia. The Shire is located adjacent to the Namoi River and the Newell and Kamilaroi Highways. Terry Hie Hie, New South Wales
Terry Hie Hie is a very small farming town in the north of New South Wales, Australia within the Moree Plains Shire Council. Terry Hie Hie is south of the Gwydir Highway, east of the Newell Highway and 47 km south-east of Moree, the nearest large town. Tycannah Creek also flows through the village of Terry Hie Hie. In times of flood, Tycannah Creek has been known to inundate some houses. This last happened during the November 2011 floods and the February 2012 floods. In February 2012 floods 12 people were ordered to evacuate from their homes during a large downpour in the Tycannah Creek catchment. Local Aboriginal groups and conservationists were petitioning as recently as 2005 for a 160 square kilometre national park to be set aside and added to the schedule of Aboriginal ownership. Moree, New South Wales
Moree is a town in Moree Plains Shire in northern New South Wales, Australia. It is located on the banks of the Mehi River, in the centre of the rich black-soil plains. The town is located at the junction of the Newell Highway and Gwydir Highway and can be reached by daily train and air services from Sydney. The Weraerai and Kamilaroi peoples are the earliest known inhabitants of the area, and the town's name is said to come from an Aboriginal word for "rising sun," "long spring," or "water hole". The town was settled by Europeans in the 1850s, and local Aboriginal residents were placed in missions, later Aboriginal reserves. The town, and in particular the Moree Baths and Swimming Pool, are known for being visited by the group of activists on the famous 1965 Freedom Ride, an historic trip through northern NSW led by Charles Perkins to bring media attention to discrimination against Indigenous Australians. Biniguy, New South Wales
Biniguy is a village in Moree Plains Shire of New South Wales in Australia. At the , the village and surrounding area had a population of 147. The village is located on the Gwydir Highway approximately from Moree, the main service centre for the region and by road from the state capital Sydney. The village is prone to seasonal flooding; in February 2012 the entire village was evacuated by helicopter to Moree A railway station was opened on 1 February 1900 with the first section of the Inverell branch, and operated until 3 December 1985, following the withdrawal of passenger trains on the line. The railway line was progressively closed, with the last section between Moree and Biniguy being listed as out of use in 1994. Today Biniguy is served by Monday to Saturday NSW TrainLink coach services to Grafton and Moree on alternate days.
