Courage To Care
Courage to Care (also known as B'nai B'rith Courage to Care) is an organization based in Australia founded by the Jewish service organization B'nai B'rith. The group's mission is to prevent discrimination and bullying through educational programs. The organisation's programme is student-centred, focused exclusively on the stories of people who rescued Jews during the Holocaust. The programme's aim is to convey community tolerance and living in harmony. Courage to Care has three divisions, one based in Sydney, New South Wales (covering the states of New South Wales and Queensland), one in Melbourne, Victoria, and one based in Perth, Western Australia. Activities Courage to Care operates a traveling exhibition featuring stories of Holocaust survivors and those who rescued them. B'nai B'rith
B'nai B'rith International (, from he, בְּנֵי בְּרִית, translit=b'né brit, lit=Children of the Covenant) is a Jewish service organization. B'nai B'rith states that it is committed to the security and continuity of the Jewish people and the State of Israel and combating antisemitism and other forms of bigotry. Although the organization's historic roots stem from a system of fraternal lodges and units in the late 19th century, as fraternal organizations declined throughout the United States, the organization evolved into a dual system of both lodges and units. Righteous Among the Nations ( he, חֲסִידֵי אֻמּוֹת הָעוֹלָם, ; "righteous (plural) of the world's nations") is an honorific used by the State of Israel to describe non-Jews who risked their lives during the Holocaust to save Jews from extermination by the Nazis for altruistic reasons. Australian Association For Jewish Studies
The Australian Association for Jewish Studies (AAJS) is a scholarly organization in Australia that promotes academic Jewish Studies. AAJS was founded in 1987 and held its first annual conference that year in Melbourne. AAJS is Australia's national association for tertiary academics, Jewish educators, researchers, curators, students and others devoted to the study of any aspect of Jewish life, thought and culture. Courage To Care Award
Since April 23, 1987, the Anti-Defamation League has given award the Courage to Care Award to honor rescuers of Jews during the Holocaust. In 2011, the award was renamed the Jan Karski Courage to Care Award in honor of one of its 1988 recipients, Jan Karski, a Polish Righteous who provided one of the first eyewitness accounts of the Final Solution to the West. Background Since 1962, the Yad Vashem Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Authority conferred the title "Righteous Among the Nations" on non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jews. Yad Vashem was established in 1953 to perpetuate the memory of the Jewish world destroyed in the Holocaust. A special committee is impaneled to study the evidence gathered from survivors and documents in order to establish the authenticity of each rescue story. Ernie Friedlander
Ernie Friedlander (born 1935) is a Holocaust survivor, and is a notable Australian-Jewish activist working in the area of anti-racism and prejudice prevention, and runs the Moving Forward Together Association. Friedlander is also closely associated with B'nai B'rith organisation in Sydney, Australia. Biography Ernie Friedlander was born in Vienna, Austria in 1935, however, he and his family were forced to leave the country in 1938 due to the Nazi efforts of the Anschluss, the annexation of Austria. Friedlander's family re-settled in Hungary, which was his father's birthplace. Once World War II and the Holocaust began, Friedlander's family face Nazi persecution and by the war's end, only Friedlander and his mother survived. Moving Forward Together (MFT) is an Australian charitable organisation based in Sydney that promotes social harmony and the prevention of prejudice. The organisation was founded in 2005 and is led by Holocaust survivor Ernie Friedlander. Harmony Day campaigns Moving Forward Together promotes social harmony, commonly in conjunction with the annual Australian Government's Harmony Day celebrations. The Holocaust, also known as the Shoah, was the genocide of European Jews during World War II.
