A county highway (also county road or county route; usually abbreviated CH or CR) is a road in the United States and in the Canadian province of Ontario that is designated and/or maintained by the county highway department. Burdett is a village in Schuyler County, New York, United States. The population was 357 at the 2000 census. The Village of Burdett is within the Town of Hector, east of Seneca Lake and northeast of Watkins Glen. History The village is the site of the first settlement in the Town of Hector, ''circa'' 1790. Geography Burdett is located at (42.415960, -76.849250). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of , all land. New York State Route 79 and Logan Creek pass through the village. Burdett is in the Finger Lakes District. Cayuta, New York
Cayuta is a city in Schuyler County, New York, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 508. The City of Cayuta occupies the southeastern corner of the county and is northeast of Elmira. It is part of the Elmira Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The first pioneers arrived ''circa'' 1798 near the community of Cayuta. The town was created from part of the Town of Spencer ( Tioga County) in 1824, before the formation of Schuyler County. The size was increased in 1854 by the addition of parts of two other towns: Catharine and Erin (then both in Chemung County). New York State Route 224 (NY 224) is a state highway in the Southern Tier of New York in the United States. The route is signed as north–south; however, in actuality the highway follows more of an east–west routing across southeastern Schuyler County and northeastern Chemung County. The western terminus of the route is at an intersection with NY 14 in the village of Montour Falls southeast of Seneca Lake and its eastern terminus is at a junction with NY 34 in the village of Van Etten. Route description NY 224 begins at an intersection with NY 14 (North Catharine Street) in the village of Montour Falls. NY 224 proceeds eastward along Clawson Boulevard, a two-lane commercial street through Montour Falls. Montour, New York
Montour is a town in Schuyler County, New York, United States. The population was 2,305 at the 2020 census. The town is one of two towns in the county named after Catherine Montour. The Town of Montour is in the southern part of the county and is north of Elmira. History The Seneca village of ''Queanettquaga'', also known by colonial settlers as Catherine's Town, was destroyed by the Sullivan Expedition in 1779. These colonial forces ranged throughout western New York, destroying Iroquois villages as well as their stores of crops. They were destitute when winter arrived. The Town of Montour was first settled by European Americans around 1794 after the American Revolutionary War. They first settled the current village of Montour Falls, named after a waterfall along one edge. This was known by the Seneca as ''Che-qua-gah,'' or "roaring water." Montour Falls is a village located in Schuyler County, New York, United States. The population was 2,714 at the time of the 2020 census. A waterfall at the end of West Main Street gives the village its name. The name "Montour" is derived from Queen Catharine Montour, a prominent Native American woman of Seneca Indian heritage who lived at the village site in the 18th century. The boundaries defining the Village of Montour Falls occur mostly within the Town of Montour, but a small part lies within the Town of Dix. The village is located approximately twenty miles north of Elmira, New York and three miles south of Watkins Glen, New York. The New York State Academy of Fire Science is located in the village. Odessa is a village in Schuyler County, New York, United States. The population was 543 at the 2020 census. The Village of Odessa is in the western side of the Town of Catharine near the town line and is shared with the Town of Montour. Odessa is north of Elmira, New York.
