A county highway (also county road or county route; usually abbreviated CH or CR) is a road in the United States and in the Canadian province of Ontario that is designated and/or maintained by the county highway department. Otisco is a town in Onondaga County, New York, United States. The population was 2,541 at the 2010 census. Otisco is in the southwestern part of the county, situated at the northern edge of the Appalachian Highlands, where an escarpment declines to the Lake Ontario plain and the city of Syracuse five miles to the north. History The town was part of the former Central New York Military Tract. The town was first settled by outsiders around 1798, but permanent settlement began around 1801. The Town of Otisco was formed in 1806 from parts of other towns: Pompey, Marcellus, and Tully. The name "Otisco" may have been derived from the Iroquois name for Nine Mile Creek, ''Us-te-ke'', meaning " bitter-nut-hickory". Route 174 begins at an intersection with NY 41 in Borodino, a hamlet of Spafford. North Syracuse is a village in Onondaga County, New York, United States. The population was 6,800 at the 2010 census. North Syracuse is located in the towns of Cicero and Clay, north of the city of Syracuse. History The village was originally called Centerville and changed to its present name in 1880. It became an incorporated village in 1925. Among the first settlers, the Fergerson family located there in 1826. They still occupy the same land located in what is now the village center. The town was named after American attorney and statesman Henry Clay. Clay is north of Syracuse.
