County routes in Yates County, New York, are signed with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices-standard yellow-on-blue pentagon route marker. Route numbers are also posted at junctions on street blade signs that display the standard route marker for a given route inside a yellow square. Even numbered highways run from east to west and are assigned sequentially starting from the northern county line, while odd numbered highways run from north to south and are assigned sequentially starting from the eastern county line at Seneca Lake. Dresden is a village in Yates County, New York, United States. The population was 308 at the 2010 census. The village was named after Dresden in Germany. The Village of Dresden is located in the Town of Torrey and is twelve miles south of Geneva. Dresden is located in the Finger Lakes Region of New York. History The region was known as "Kashong" (or "Kashanquash") to the natives and was part of the Phelps and Gorham Purchase. At the end of the 18th century, followers of the Public Universal Friend, a religious leader, began to settle in the area. They called the area "Jerusalem" and founded a community near the present site of Dresden. Dresden was founded in 1811 as a planned community. The Village of Dresden was incorporated in 1867. New York State Route 364 (NY 364) is a state highway located in the Finger Lakes region of New York in the United States. It extends for from an intersection with NY 14A in Penn Yan to a junction with the concurrent routes of U.S. Route 20 (US 20) and NY 5 just east of the Canandaigua city limits. NY 364 follows a predominantly east–west alignment from Penn Yan to Middlesex and a north–south routing from Middlesex to Canandaigua, resulting in an L-shaped alignment. As a result, the route is posted as north–south north of Middlesex and east–west east of the hamlet. In the Canandaigua area, the road serves as a connector between US 20 and NY 5, Finger Lakes Community College, and the eastern shore of Canandaigua Lake. Middlesex, New York
Middlesex is a town in Yates County, New York, United States. The population was 1,495 at the 2010 census. The name originates from the county of Middlesex, England. The Town of Middlesex is on the northwest corner of the county and is south of Canandaigua. History A legend of the Seneca tribe states that they originated in a village called Nundawao, near the south end of Canandaigua Lake, at South Hill. Right next to South Hill stands the 865-foot-high Bare Hill, known to the Senecas as Genundowa. Bare Hill is part of the Bare Hill Unique Area, which began to be acquired by the state in 1989. Bare Hill had been the site of a Seneca or pre-Seneca fort; first written reference to this fort was made in 1825 by David Cusick in his history of the Seneca Indians. Dundee, New York
Dundee is a village in Yates County, New York, United States. The population was 1,725 at the 2010 census. The name was taken from Dundee, the city in Scotland with a population of 148,260. The Village of Dundee is in the Town of Starkey. The village is in the Finger Lakes Region of New York, halfway between Elmira and Geneva. Dundee Airport (D48) is located northeast of the village. History The community was known early by the name "Plainview". At first, the village did not thrive due to competition from another neighboring community, "Eddytown", but eventually prevailed over its rival. Around 1834, residents began to seek a new name for the village and, persuaded by a native of Scotland, named the village "Dundee".
