County Route 15 (Nassau County, New York)
County Route 15 (CR 15) is an unsigned county road in Nassau County, New York. It travels between Port Washington Boulevard (New York State Route 101, NY 101) in Port Washington at its north end and Old Northern Boulevard (CR D71) in the Village of Roslyn at its southern end. A small portion also passes through the Village of Flower Hill. This route travels along Beacon Hill Road and Roslyn West Shore Road (also known as West Shore Road), and is maintained in its entirety by the Nassau County Department of Public Works. Route description Starting from its northern end, County Route 15 starts at the intersection of Beacon Hill Road, Main Street, and Port Washington Boulevard (NY 101) in Port Washington. Roslyn ( ) is a village in the Town of North Hempstead in Nassau County, on the North Shore of Long Island, in New York, United States. It is the Greater Roslyn area's anchor community. The population was 2,770 at the 2010 census. History Roslyn was initially settled by colonists in the year 1643. It was originally called Hempstead Harbor, but its name was changed to Roslyn in 1844 due to postal confusion regarding all the other "Hempsteads" scattered about Long Island. The name "Roslyn" was selected as the new name, as its location in a valley reminded officials of Roslin, Scotland. Roslyn was incorporated as a village on January 11, 1932. Its first Mayor was Albertson W. Hicks, who was unanimously elected two days later, on January 13. New York State Route 101 (NY 101) is a long state highway in northwestern Nassau County, New York, in the United States. It runs north–south as Port Washington Boulevard from NY 25A in Flower Hill, west of Roslyn and east of Manhasset, to Astor Lane in Sands Point. It becomes County Route 101 south along Searingtown Road to Shelter Rock Road ( County Route 8 or CR 8) and becomes Middle Neck Road (CR D55) north of Astor Lane, continuing north and west to a dead end at Long Island Sound as the unsigned County Route D55. Flower Hill is a village in Nassau County, on the North Shore of Long Island, in New York, United States. North Hempstead Beach Park (officially known as Bar Beach and Hempstead Harbor Parks) is a beach located on Hempstead Harbor in Port Washington, in Nassau County, on the North Shore of Long Island, in New York, United States. Route numbers were originally posted on unique blue-on-orange pentagonal route markers reflecting the county's official colors; however, all county route signage was removed in the mid-1970s after the Federal Highway Administration enacted new standards for county route markers in 1973. The county legislature refused to allocate funds to replace the signs with new markers conforming to the federal government's Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, leaving the routes unsigned.
