Freeville is a village in Tompkins County, New York, United States. The population was 520 at the 2010 census. The Village of Freeville is in the Town of Dryden and is east of Ithaca. It is the only incorporated municipality in the United States named Freeville. History Freeville was in the former Central New York Military Tract. It was first settled by Daniel White, a Revolutionary War soldier who cleared land along Fall Creek and built a cabin there around 1798; by 1802 White had established a grist mill at the site. In the early 1870s, Freeville was transformed from a quiet mill town into an important regional railroad junction when the Southern Central Railroad and the Utica, Ithaca & Elmira Railroad (acquired in 1884 by the newly created Elmira, Cortland and Northern Railroad) extended their lines through the village. County Route 115 (CR 115) is a northwest–southeast county highway located mostly within the town of Caroline in Tompkins County, New York, in the United States. It extends for from the Tioga County line south of the hamlet of Speedsville to an intersection with New York State Route 79 (NY 79) just north of the Caroline town line in the town of Dryden. The highway continues into Tioga County as CR 33. The portion of CR 115 north of the hamlet of Guide Board Corners was originally designated as New York State Route 330 and maintained by the state of New York. NY 330 existed from the early 1930s to 1980, when ownership and maintenance of the highway was transferred to Tompkins County. Tioga County is a county in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2020 census, the population was 48,455. Its county seat is Owego. Its name derives from an American Indian word meaning "at the forks", describing a meeting place. Tioga County is part of the Binghamton, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. History In 1789, Montgomery County was reduced in size by the splitting-off of Ontario County. The actual area split off from Montgomery County was much larger than the present county, also including the present Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Orleans, Steuben, Wyoming, Yates, and part of Schuyler and Wayne counties. New York State Route 79 (NY 79) is a east–west state highway in the Southern Tier of New York, in the United States. The western terminus of the route is at the intersection with NY 414 near the southern end of Seneca Lake just northeast of Watkins Glen. Its eastern terminus is at the Pennsylvania state line in the town of Windsor in Broome County, where it connects to Pennsylvania Route 92 (PA 92). New York State Route 393 (NY 393) was an east–west state highway in Tompkins County, New York, in the United States. It was a spur route that connected the downtown district of the city of Ithaca to the Ithaca– Dryden town line. The western terminus of the route was at an intersection with NY 13 (modern NY 366) in East Ithaca. Its eastern terminus was at Game Farm Road, a local road that straddled the boundary between the towns of Ithaca and Dryden. NY 393 was assigned in the early 1930s as a signed designation for a highway that the state of New York had assumed maintenance of in the 1910s. It originally extended west along Mitchell Street to NY 79, but was truncated to Ithaca Road when NY 13 was rerouted through Ithaca in the mid-1930s. Cayuga Heights is a village in Tompkins County, New York, United States and an upscale suburb of Ithaca. The village is in the Town of Ithaca, directly northeast of the City of Ithaca and Cornell University's main campus. The population was 3,729 at the 2010 census. The village is home to many faculty members at Cornell, including its president. History After the Revolutionary War, much of Upstate New York was divided into tracts to be given to veterans. New York State Route 38 (NY 38) is a north–south state highway in the Finger Lakes region of New York in the United States. Its southern terminus is at an intersection with NY 96 in the town of Owego in Tioga County. The northern terminus is at a junction with NY 104A in the town of Sterling in Cayuga County. NY 38 is a two-lane local road for most of its length. The route is the main access road to parts of Auburn, Dryden, Newark Valley and Port Byron.
