U.S. Route 98 (US 98) is a major east-west thoroughfare through the U.S. state of Florida. Spanning , it connects Pensacola and the Alabama/Florida state line to the west with Palm Beach and the Atlantic coast in the east. It is the longest US road in Florida, as well as the longest US road in any state other than California (US 101) and Texas. It was established in 1933 as a route between Pensacola and Apalachicola, and has since been extended eastward across the Florida Peninsula and westward into Mississippi. Florida State Road 20
State Road 20 (SR 20) is a east-to-west route across northern Florida and the Florida Panhandle in the United States. Route description Okaloosa County (Niceville and Bluewater Bay) SR 20 starts at SR 85 in Niceville as John Sims Parkway, which travels to Eglin AFB East Gate through Valparaiso as westbound SR 85 and southbound SR 397. SR 20 heads slightly southeast while SR 85 goes north towards Crestview. The road shortly after intersects the southern terminus of SR 285 as it passes by Niceville High School, reducing to four lanes from six lanes. SR 20 continues straight through Niceville before turning more southeast, crossing the C.G. Meigs Bridge over Rocky Bayou, exiting the Niceville city limits and entering Bluewater Bay. 3 miles later, the road intersects SR 293, providing access to Destin via the Mid-Bay Bridge before reducing to two lanes and entering Walton County. Florida State Road 285
State Road 285 (SR 285) is a north–south state road in Florida’s western panhandle. Route description SR 285's south end is at SR 20 in downtown Niceville. From there, it head northwest through town as Partin Drive. After several blocks, it crosses Swift Creek, heading out of Niceville. After that, it quickly crosses College Boulevard, and into Eglin Air Force Base, where it stays for most of its journey. It slowly turns more toward the north until it passes Pierce Field, a closed auxiliary field. Then, it turns back to its northwest pattern, heading towards Ramer Lookout Tower. After a few miles, it crosses the county border from Okaloosa into Walton. It intersects with Range Road 213 and Bob Sikes Road, then heads northward, hugging the border.
