County Of Robinson
The County of Robinson is one of the 49 counties of South Australia. It was proclaimed in 1883 by Governor William Robinson who named it after himself. It lies on the north west coast of Eyre Peninsula stretching from Streaky Bay inland to include the Gawler Ranges Conservation Park at the southern cusp of the Gawler Ranges. Local government spanning the county includes the District Council of Streaky Bay and District Council of Elliston, both established in 1888, and the District Council of Wudinna, established in 1925. Murphy's Haystacks
Murphy's Haystacks are inselberg rock formations located at Mortana, between Streaky Bay and Port Kenny on the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. They are of a 'tumulus' form of weathered granite outcrop. They are made of a pink, massive, coarsely equigranular rock consisting mostly of quartz and orthoclase. Their appearance may be due to a combination of erosion by underground rainwater and then by subsequent weathering after they were exposed. Most of the pillars emerge without a break from the underlying granite. Their structural base may be of orthogonal or vertically-aligned sheet jointing. They obtained their name because a traveller in a coach saw the formation in the distance. He asked how a farmer could produce so much hay. As the farm was on a property owned by a man called Murphy, the rocks became known as Murphy's Haystacks. District Council Of Elliston
The District Council of Elliston is a local government area covering around 6500 km2 on the Western Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. Established in 1888, the district has a diverse economy, with agriculture, commercial fishing and tourism making up the majority of the local economy. History The council was established by the District Councils Act 1887 on 5 January 1888. The bounds were defined in the act as "Comprising the whole of the County of Musgrave, and portion of the County of Robinson south of a true east line from the most northern point of Venus Bay to the east boundary of the said county." Cungena, South Australia
Cungena is a settlement in South Australia. It is in the District Council of Streaky Bay, on the Eyre Highway between Kyancutta and Ceduna. The town was surveyed and proclaimed in 1917, named after the Hundred of Cungena proclaimed in 1913. Cungena also includes the former town of Capietha. Perlubie, South Australia
Perlubie is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located on the west coast of Eyre Peninsula about north-west of the state capital of Adelaide and about north-east of the municipal seat of Streaky Bay. History Perlubie was selected as the name of the locality whose boundaries were created in April 2001. The name is derived from places within the locality such as Perlubie Hut and Perlubie Well. The word 'Perlubie" is reported to be of Aboriginal origins and to mean "white sand hill".
