Dawson River (Queensland)
The Dawson River is a river located in Central Queensland, Australia. Course and features The Dawson River rises in the Carnarvon Range, draining through the Carnarvon National Park, northwest of the settlement of Upper Dawson. The flows generally south by east, crossed by the Carnarvon Highway and then flows generally east through the settlement of where the river is crossed by the Leichhardt Highway. The river then flows in a northerly direction through the settlement of where the river is again crossed by the Leichhardt Highway. The river flows north through the settlement of and towards , crossed by the Capricorn Highway. A little further north, the Dawson River forms confluence with the Mackenzie River to form the Fitzroy River. From source to mouth, the river is joined by sixty-four tributaries, including the Don River, and descends over its course. Wuruma Dam
Wuruma Dam was constructed across the Nogo River in the upper Burnett River Catchment 48km north-west of Eidsvold for irrigation & town water supply for Eidsvold, Mundubbera and Gayndah. The dam wall is of mass concrete gravity construction which cost $5.3m to build and was completed in 1968. It has a surface area when full of 1,639 hectares (4,048 acres), and a capacity of 165,400 ML. The dam takes its name from a local indigenous word meaning brahminy kite. After reaching a low of 0.03% in September 1970, Wuruma Dam overflowed for the first time in February 1971. Since construction the dam has overflowed 9 times. It recorded its highest level of 142.64% capacity (3.74m over the spillway) in January 2013 as a result of heavy rains from ex Tropical Cyclone Oswald. SunWater is undertaking a dam spillway capacity upgrade program to ensure the highest level of safety for our dams is maintained. The spillway will be upgraded in the longer term. Geography Cania Road, which provides access to Cania Gorge National Park and Cania Dam, runs north from the Burnett Highway through Moonford to Cania. History In December 1933, tenders were called to erect Moonford State School. It opened on 5 June 1934. The North Burnett Region is a local government area in Queensland, Australia in the northern catchment of the Burnett River. Wide Bay–Burnett is a region of the Australian state of Queensland, located between north of the state capital, Brisbane. The area's population growth has exceeded the state average over the past 20 years, and it is forecast to grow to more than 430,000 by 2031. It is the subject of the ''Draft Wide Bay–Burnett Regional Plan'', which aims to facilitate this growth while protecting over 90% of the region from urban development. Lands administrative divisions of Queensland refers to the divisions of Queensland used for the registration of land titles. There are 322 counties, and 5,319 parishes within the state. They are part of the Lands administrative divisions of Australia. Queensland had been divided into 109 counties in the nineteenth century, before the Land Act of 1897 subdivided many of these counties to 319. Some of the eastern counties remained the same, with most of the subdivisions occurring in the west and north. The current counties were named and bounded by the Governor in Council on 7 March 1901. In 2006, the government sought advice about a plan to abolish the counties and parishes within the state.
