County Of Newcastle
The County of Newcastle is one of the 49 counties of South Australia spanning the central Flinders Ranges. It was named in 1876 for Francis Pelham-Clinton-Hope, the eighth Duke of Newcastle. Local government Local government was initiated within the county in 1883 with the establishment of the Corporate Town of Quorn in the Hundred of Pichi Richi in the central south the county. In 1888 the councils of Davenport (later called Woolundunga) and Kanyaka were established, bringing the whole county under local governance. __NOTOC__ Moockra is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located on the eastern side of the Flinders Ranges about north of the state capital of Adelaide and about north-east and south-east respectively of the municipal seats of Melrose and Quorn. Boundaries for the locality were created on 13 March 1997 for the part within the District Council of Mount Remarkable, on 25 November 1999 for the part in the Flinders Ranges Council and on 16 December 1999 for the part in the District Council of Orroroo Carrieton. Its boundaries include the sites of the Government Towns of Hawkshaw and Moockra. The principal locality in the hundred is the former township of Willochra. Kanyaka, South Australia
Kanyaka is a rural locality in the Far North (South Australia), Far North region of South Australia, situated in the Flinders Ranges Council. Kanyaka Station, a prominent pastoral holding in the region, was taken up in 1852 by Hugh Proby. It became one of the largest stations in the area, reportedly employing up to seventy families at one stage. In 1856, the station owner built an eating house on the main road to divert visitors away from the main station. A government town of Kanyaka along the main road was surveyed in 1863, although not proclaimed; although the Kanyaka township itself would be a failure and the least successful of the four former towns in the modern-day locality, it allowed for the construction of a two-story hotel, the Great Northern Hotel, on the main road in 1865. Flinders Ranges Council is a local government area (LGA) located in the Flinders Ranges of South Australia. The LGA is approximately 100 km from north to south, and 45 km from east to west, with a total area of 4,198 square kilometres. The main towns within the council are Hawker and Quorn; it also includes the localities of Barndioota, Kanyaka and Stephenston, and part of Bruce, Cradock, Flinders Ranges, Moockra, Saltia, Shaggy Ridge, Wilmington and Yarrah. District Council Of Hawker
The District Council of Hawker was a local government area in South Australia from 1888 to 1997, centred on the town of Hawker. At its creation it was the northernmost local government area in the state. History It was established on 5 January 1888 under the provisions of the ''District Councils Act 1887''. It comprised the hundreds of Arkaba in the County of Hanson, Barndioota and Wonoka in the County of Blachford, and Wirreanda and Yednalue in the County of Granville. Land from each of the hundreds of Adams and Warcowie was added to the District Council on 12 May 1932. In 1936, it was reported to have an estimated population of 975 across an area of 300 square miles. In that year, the council elected a member from five wards, one for each of the initial hundreds.
