For the 2022-2023 school year, Madera South High School will be removed to the North Yosemite League and It will be replaced by Justin Garza High School. North Yosemite League
The North Yosemite League is a high school athletics league that is a part of the CIF Central Section. It encompasses public high schools in Fresno County and Madera, California The current NYL was formed before the start of the 1996-97 school year when the Central Section broke up the Northeast Yosemite League and Northwest Yosemite League.. The old NYL was a conference formed in 1951, and was considered the premier athletic league in the Central Section up until 1994, when it devolved into the NEYL and NWYL. Original members of the NYL include: Fresno, Roosevelt, Merced, Visalia, Madera, Hanford and Edison. In 1955, Visalia split up into Redwood and Mt. Whitney High Schools and followed Hanford out of the NYL, leaving it with 5 teams. Clovis joined the league in 1957, Bullard and McLane came on in 1959, Hoover in 1963. Justin Garza High School is a public high school serving the rural area west of Fresno, California. History Funding In the early 2000s, administrators for the Central Unified School District noted growing enrollment and identified the district owned land next to Deran Koligan Stadium as the likely site for a new high school. In 2008, voters passed Measure B, authorizing $152 million in bonds for improvements at existing schools as well as new campuses, including a new high school. The Great Recession of 2008 reduced the assessed home values in the area which made the full funding unsustainable. The bond amount was reduced to $64.7 million and delayed the ability to design and construct a high school. Founded in 1955 and recognized as one of Fresno's top public schools, it is part of the Fresno Unified School District, and had around 2,650 students on roll in grades 9–12, approximately 650 students per grade. Madera High School is the first school and original high school in the central San Joaquin Valley city of Madera, California, serving students since 1894. The school colors are royal blue & white and its mascot is the coyote. History Madera High School's layout has been changed over the years. Originally, a brick schoolhouse served as MHS; this was destroyed in a fire in the early 1900s. In 1907 a new similarly styled brick building—nicknamed the "Main Building"—was constructed. Soon, more buildings began appearing. In 1976, the "Main Building" was demolished, because it did not meet earthquake standards; the area where it was located is now known as "The Pit" and is the hub for lunchtime activities. Sanger Union High School is the four-year public high school serving Sanger, California and the rural surrounding community (defined as Sanger and the communities of Centerville, Fairmont, and Tivy Valley.
